One quick question about the RX-8

Hi, I've been a long time visitor this site but i never registered untill today. I love this site and I love the the RX-8 but I have one quick question. I know that the rx-8 uses a lot of oil beause of oil consumption but I was wondering is that only temporary or is it going to happen through out the life of the car?...Thanks for your help.

Geez...do a search.

If you consider an average of 1 quart every 3000 miles "alot" of oil, then I really think you need to look elsewhere. This car is not for people who never open their hood.

By the way, the car consumes oil by design. There are oil injectors that inject a small amount of oil into the combustion chamber to lube the apex and side seals on the rotors. If you drive hard, then of course you are going to have a higher rate of consumption.

it's not alot... if you dont drive aggresively then it should be even less then 1 qt every 3000 miles

As shaolin said, the rotary engine consumes oil by design for lubrication and cooling, so it is not something that will change with time. If a rotary engine does NOT consume oil for whatever reason, there is a problem with the system that will undoubtedly result in a blown engine.
