Okay Techs: Need Help: Airbag Sensor Warning Light after hitting Curb (wheel rash)

So I am in need of an alloy wheel due to some curb rash I suffered when hitting a curb the other night.

There was no other apparent damage and the car is tracking true at speed.

(On a side note, maybe I should have the car hoisted and look at that part of the suspension? Thoughts?)

So today the airbag sensor warning light came on and off intermittently, which it never did before.

Am I right to assume this almost certainly is related to hitting the curb?

What's the best way to ensure that the airbag isn't an issue and to get the code/light to go away?

Any other issues you guys can advise on?

Thanks, my brothers.

Finding out what the particular code is would give you a place to start.

You don't think it's almost certain hitting the curb caused the airbag sensor light to come on?

I will definitely get the code checked out at Autozone tomorrow.

Indeed... same thing happened to me.

Solution: I disconnected all three airbag connectors and reconnected them. Never got the light ever again.

When I bought my car it had been in a wreck and repaired, but the airbag light was on even after the airbags were replaced. It took me weeks of digging with the help of some others on the forum, but I was able to find the issue.

The code is not related to the engine codes that autozone etc can pull with a code reader/scanner. You read the codes by turning on the key and counting the flashes of the light (IIRC). Attatched is a file which will identify the code and related failure. Mine turned out to be a seat belt retractor/sensor.

Good luck.

Sometimes the cable under the driver seat would make the light come on. Disconnect and reconnect to see if it solves the problem.

Rotary Ressurection - quick question - dp you know if these codes have to be reset by Mazda? I removed my seat without remembering to disconnect the battery before pulliong the airbag connecting wires, heard a "pop" and later found to have the airbag warning light on. The dashes correspond to the seat airbag that I replaced.

I bought a NEW airbag, assuming I fried the old one, but the code is still present! Do you know if they have to be reset somehow? I'm pretty confident, between the code and the circumstances, that if anything were physically damaged it was the airbag unit which has since been replaced.

Thanks for any insight....

In my experience once the components are connected properly and have no internal faults, the light goes off on its own. Check and recheck those connections...it is easy to have the connector on the airbag appear and feel like it is firmly connected when it is not fully seated.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I checked it many times, although it's still possible. Maybe when it gets warm again (springtime lol) i'll pull it out.

who needs airbags anyway? heh
