oil thread. jk...well kina. Castrol gtx smell

Ok so I did the oil change yesterday. while pouring in the castrol gtx 5w30 I got a strong smell. O inspect the jug and the color is fine but it smells like used oil!!!
I compared the smell of another oil that I had left over from the last oil change. What do you guys think?

I never had that happen before and I use gtx aswell. Maybe the oil was really old? Did all the bottles smell?

The color looked the same. Its a 5qt jog. I have another one that I compared to it. One smelled normal the new one had a STRONG smell. I change the oil every 2 months so im around oil and know the difference. Im calling castrol, by the time I paid attention to the smell (thinking it was the one I took out) I had already filled the 8 with that oil.

Spoke to a lady at castrol. She said that as long as it was sealed its ok. She is going to send me a couple of coupon to get some qts for free. She said that if I compare this one to another new one made around the same time it will be the same. Lets see im going to walmart and complain about it and try to get a new jug to check the smell

You don't have anything better to do than complain to everyone about this obviously new oil that smells kind of funny to you? What's the end result you are looking for... Free oil?

if it was me, i'd drain the oil. Oil is cheap and the peace of mind is worth the trouble. You know full well if something random happens to your engine over the next few years you'll always wonder "was it caused by that weird oil?"

So let me get this straight, you have identified a bad batch of oil by using your keen sense of smell and now you want to know what to do about?

Seriously, if you truly believe you know what good oil smells like then just change it and move on. Geesh.

I never said it was BAD. Im not a expert in oil. I said it has a STRONG smell that non of the 5-7 jugs of gtx Ive used this year. Something is different no? Maybe thats how they are going to smell from now on. dont come crapping on peoples thread.

I don't have a problem, I'm not crapping on your thread, it just seems ridiculous that your oil smelled bad (all oil smells bad) and that you went through all the trouble of calling, etc. over a $10.00 jug of oil. Its my opinion, deal with it.

I think you are ridiculous for giving your useless opinion.

Its not about the money. Its a concern about an oil that most of the people on this forum use it or will use.

Well thank you for this informative thread, I am sure you have discovered a huge problem with Castrol selling bad smelling oil. Go ahead and get that stuff tested ASAP.

All 9k is saying is that bad smelling oil isn't as big of a deal as you're making it out to be. It all smells bad. If it bothers you, change it and be done with it.

I agree with him.

I couldn't help but be amazed at how good your nose is. I've never been able to tell which brand it was from the smell. Might want to market that thing.

Sorry
