Oil pressure problems? :/

Hello,

I bought an 04 AT RX8 in febuary of this year. Its got 55k miles on it and has had all recalls/upgrades, and even a 65000 check up. I recently took it in to replace all 4 igntion coils because my engine light was on. I bought it from a dealership so I have no idea who the owner is or really know anything about the car.

I'm not so much a car enthusiast as much as I like the looks of the car. So I honestly don't know whats going on here. I drove home today from work, and when I pulled into my drive way, the car stopped dead. Still in drive, I try the gas and it doesn't work. My oil pressure reading dropped to nothing. I restarted, and it had a little trouble turning over, but it caught. I put it in drive and let it go for a little bit... then pushed the gas and the same thing happened. My oil pressure has always been a tad high, 2 or 3 bars over the middle. Recently, I've been driving it a little rough from showing some of my coworkers my car. At High Revs, all the sudden the oil pressure red light came on so I turned it off and back on. Oil pressure was still the same its been since I purchased the car.

So here is my question, does anyone have an insight? I know this isn't the Mazda dealership but it would be kind of nice if someone could give me hope or something

Read the manual.

This car burns oil to lubricate the seals. Means you need to constantly check and fill the oil.

Carbon up due to babying the car. or ur engine is going to rotary heaven.

Maybe its time to try to decarbon it a few times following my DIY.

Also, Read the manual please.

the "pressure" gauge u're seeing is a dummy gauge, its either On(2-3bars middle right) or off(not good)

if its *off* all the time, either the *dummy switch located behind the engine* is bad. or you're really running it dry.

The word "constantly" gonna scare him away.

If everything works well just check it every few hundred miles or so, just like any other car.

i've been checking it consistently since my lass fill up (about 500 miles - 1000 miles ago) and haven't noticed any change. the bar reads full, unless im a complete dumb ***.

and the oil pressure has always been 2-3 bars high, never way below

I told u, cuz its a dummy gauge, so its either *on* or *off*.

it does NOT tell you the exact pressure. Mazda probably was trying to save a few bux

plus most people are morons, they cant tell between *good* and *bad* pressure readings, the more stuff u give it to them, the more confusions they have.

Haha ok thanks man, wasn't aware of that. I have doubts about carbon build up, but I am going to go double check the oil.

Thanks again.

Trust me, you should NOT have doubts about carbon build up. especially u're not the original owner of the car.

when it comes to Rotary engine, most garage has ZERO clue on how to fix them, so u might want to just try to de-carbon it following my DIY.

today, i was coming home and looked down at my oil pressure gauge and it was at the last bar on the right. 2004 AT 46000 miles on it, i had an oil change 150 miles back. i checked the oil when i got home and everything was golden. ive never had this happen in any vehicle ive ever owned or built. the pressure now is fine 2-3bars to the right from the middle. any ideas as to why it was at the last bar on the right?

You have an oil pressure gauge too?! This is what mine looks like.

If you're looking at the one near the Tach, then well... umm.... yeah...
Hate to break it to you but the one that came with the 8 is a 'dummy' gauge; it's not actually monitor anything.

Jedi54 Dam I want that! However I'm guessing it was moderately expensive and wildly complicated to install right?

haha, thanks!

You guys don't read the sticky thread much, do you? I've got a D.I.Y. on how to install these. The thread has over 10,000 views.

It's a great mod, definitely worth the money if you track your car, live in a high temperature area, or really just want to know what your car is doing under heavy load.

Not as expensive as one would think.

thanks for the help guy, but this is the second post ive ever posted on this thread. in fact, if you wanna be an ***, TODAY was the first time ive even seen this thread. im not chaosgeneration. and i upgraded the sensors to greddy ones, so the gauges should be a bit more than just dummies. and its a totally different problem then what that guy was asking. READ next time
