anyone else?? --- my 2005 rx-8 has 2000 miles on it and I just checked the oil and it looks like chocolate milk ---- I called the mazda dealership and they calmed me down and said they have yet to see an 8 with a blown head gasket and they occassionaly get calls from other new 8 owners with the same concerns. It doesnt look normal to me, he said it common on the rotory motor --- he said drive it and don't worry.

 

number one, there's no 'head gasket' in a rotary engine.....

that said, light colored chocolate milk doesn't sound like the right color for oil, take it to another mazda dealer and see what they say re oil color....

 

I think he is talking about the " gunk on the dipstick " issue. It is normal for us owners that have to go through winter.

I don't think any RX8 would ever blow a head gasket, not in a million years would I ever think it could happen.

 

Time to find a new dealer.

 

You're not looking at the oil, you are looking at the dipstick - two very different things. The oil is fine, there's just a little condensation in the tubing for the dipstick. Relax, and put the dealer down!

You should take it to another dealer and get it taken care of, if you don't you may throw a rod down the line.

 

yeah what they all said, all you have to do is take it to the dealer, and they'll put a plastic strip into your dipstick tunnel... It looks milky because it's cold out and the dipstick isn't reaching the oil... I had the same problem, i spent 10 mins at the dealer.

 

Check your pistons, stat!

 

Blown head gasket? Quick... do you know where you are? How many fingers am I holding up?

 

Next come the muffler bearings.

I hate when dealers just make crap up to tell people.

 

I was just topping off my oil today and it indeed looked like chocolate milk. Yum!

I suppose it's more like froth. Frothy chocolate milk to go alongside the espresso that is the oil.

 

THAT IS NOT NORMAL.... I stress this! Fight your dealer... oil is not suppose to be any other color than the color of oil. My RX-8 has this isssue and I'm in a battle right now for help from Mazda. Thousands of vehicles go through winter a year... and their oil DOESNT CHANGE TO MILKY COLORS!

LBDboater, you're worried about nothing. What you're seeing is some moisture trapped in the oil (hence the frothy/foamy apperance). If you were to actually drain some of your oil (and you can try that, just be sure to refill back to full level), you would see that it is of normal color that you expect.

Read this TSB from Mazda about the issue. It says:

So basically, it is nothing to worry about. It is unfortunate that the design of the oil pan and the engine allows enough blow-by gases to condensate to produce this chocolate milk effect, but, as Mazda says, the substance dissipates and your oil is OK.

According to the TSB, your dealer can install a narrow tube in the dipstick area to try to reduce the amount of milky substance sticking to thet dipstick, so you can check your oil level more easily.

 

Yeah that'll help. But honestly NoTears this one's a lost cause. You should read his other 3 posts, their quite humorous. I gotta good laugh.

Honestly, I'm sorry. I think I was little upset because my baby is not doing so well. She didnt start the other morning, and I've just had some issues with her. Sorry for the incovience. By the way, now that I think I might possibly understand a little better I wont be so upset. Im not a troll... I post on many sites.
