Oh no! An RX-8 rental car

I was driving down to the auto store to pick up some wheel cleaner when I saw a gray RX-8 just ahead, so I prepare to wave. First thing I notice is that the exhaust tips are filthy. Second thing I notice is the yellow bumper sticker -- Triangle Rental Car.

One of the few I've seen on the road -- and it's a rental.

I didn't wave.

I was actually looking for an 8 rental for a possible road trip. The only ones I've seen are at specialty or exotic rentals.

Our local AutoRent stocks some rental 8s. The used to rent Miatas. Very cool if you want to try the car but can't afford to but.

I think it's retarded for any rental company to have rotary-engined cars in stock. The average person would have no idea how to care for it and would likely flood it, go on a long road trip without knowing the check the oil, etc.

Good one... I wish there is RX-8 rental. Why not?

That solves a lot of anguish of missing my RX-8 overseas... plus being with another RX-8 is like having an affair with another woman :p

Remind me never to buy a used RX-8 owned by a rental agency.

Hertz Rental

Mazda sold a number of RX8 to Hertz rental-they are throughout the US, with exception of most New England states. They actually cost no more to rent than any other mid size car. See if you can rent a Honda S200, or 350Z

There are premium divisions to most large rental car places (Enterprise, Hertz) and many carry Corvettes, Land Rovers, Jaguars, H2s etc. Prices are ridiculous though.

Nothing wrong with Rx8 as rental cars, I've also seen F360, Vipers, and other cars like that. But of course they were exotics, so....

Cool, now I can drive an 8 like it's a rental

Come on, you know you thrash on rentals. I have done things in rental cars I would never dream of doing in my own car.

Actually, the local AutoRent was renting manuals. The Miatas they used to rent were manual also. They were renting them for recreation, not as a normal temporary replacement vehicle.

Ahh yes...they deemed to give me a Pontiac Sunfire last time I was in LA, and I launched that POS in a parking lot to moderate delight and squealing tires.

Los Angeles. And over in City of Industry is like tuner capital...and here I am in a Sunfire, my RX-8 carefully tucked away 3000 miles away in Michigan...
