So sorry to hear that about your brother, Razz. That's an awful thing to have happened.

Sometimes I ask God to not let me be so angry for what happened and give me the strength to deal with it. It' s just that I get so angry because it's one of those accidents that could have been avoided. She was a 20. y.o female who cared more about answering a call than driving...but anyway.

I went to the body shop yesterday to see how things were going. I am in communication with the co-owner, Randy, who's been very nice and emphathetic about this whole situation. I told him that I didn't want to be a pest, but I had to see the progress, and that I'm driving a Hyundai as a rental for the last 20 days so I'm getting anxious about having my car back. I miss my zoom-zoom guys. Randy told me that I can come by as much as I like, he has no problem with that.

Well he took me to the work area, and my car was on the lift. The passenger door was off, front fender, hood and front bumber/facia were removed. It was stripped from the suicide door up. The tire/rim was lying on the ground, and he said that the chrome rim was beyond repair, and that he is going to ge Allstate to order another one. Also the tire was stredded. He asked were I got it and I told him the Tire Rack and he said that that was excellent because that's where they get all of their tires from. The tire will be replaced also, with the size that I have on my car, not the OEM size. They also had to replace the door harness. I didn't mention the puddle lamps that I have in the mirrors and the side strakes, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

He wanted me to look at the impact site. You can easily tell where it was, but he pointed out how well the car absored the crash energy. It not only absorbed it, but dispersed it throughout the entire car. This chick was going about 40-45 mph upon impact. He pointed out the crumple zones, and how each weld absorbed energy and crumpled in a pre-determined way. I WAS HIGHLY IMPRESSED. He said that the RX8 was a unibody construction which meant that the frame sits inside the body. The frame wasn't touched. He also pointed out how Mazda specifies how body work is performed, something about how Mazda creates their welds so that a repairer can identify how everything lines up and how it should be. Really didn't understand that part. The car didn't allow the energy to enter the passenger compartment either because my dash wasn't bent or twisted in anyway. It looks now like it looked before the accident. The beams in the door, although they weren't bent that much, wouldn't have allowed another vehicle to intrude into the passenger compartment if the collision was more of a side impact collision. Of course the seat and side curtain airbags deployed, and the curtain airbag ran from front to back, protecting the ALL passengers. He pointed out how the seatbelt grabbed and tighted because the mechanism used to do so is no longer usable as well as the belt itself....that's why I have to have the whole thing replaced. He was impressed, and so was I. That's when I told him that RX8's have a 5-star crash rating. So be proud of your 8s guys, cuz they can save your life. KOODOS TO MAZDA'S ENGINEERS!

Randy told me that their was a slight defect in the fender that was ordered, and that he was not going to allow it to be installed. So they are waiting for another fender. Also they have to paint or course, and re-install suspension pieces, replace the airbags, etc. etc. He told me that it's a process and that they have brought out their "A" team. When it's all finished, he said that I will be fully satisfied, but of course I'll make that determination. He also said that they garauntee their work, especially the paint, for the lifetime of the vehicle....I'm counting on that.

I'll keep you posted.
