off the line..

Ive had my 04 rx8 for 2 years now, have had 2 engines due to the normal problem both covered under our awesome warrentys! I've recently gotten into auto x car runs awesome but ive also hit the drag strip and have had horrible times and bin smacked by stock cars even almost a civic , I find my car is terribly slow off the line. Now with saying that half of it is the driver! any tips on getting our cars off the line quicker?

Yes.

Buy a different car with alot more power and tow it or push it off the line.

This isn't a drag strip car, never will be. Torque, especially low end torque that matters so much at the strip, is incredibly low.

If you want a car that does both auto-x and the strip well, get a corvette, or any other number of cars that have both torque AND handling. We only have one. We do well at it, but we still only have 1.

You shouldn't even be asking this. (and will get flamed for doing so)

No matter what you do you will not be able to add enough torque to the car. The RX-8 has very low torque especially on the low RPMs. You add a turbo to help you maybe even NOs but you will have to drop a lot of money and you will still get dusted by many off the line.

Ps. Making the car lighter would be a good start

Add turbo, intake manifold, exhaust, nos, etc...yes, add those and you'll win all the time.

To be a bit more helpful:

You just have to work on your launch, but remember it will be rough on the car. You basically need to pair high revs and careful clutch work. If you just drop the clutch, you'll risk bogging or just spinning the wheels.

The only idea behind that would be turbo lag and the supercharger's immediate response. Modern turbos are much better about lag, especially when sized properly. Since no one is running big turbos on the 8, it's not going to be a huge issue. You have to look at the entire power range. If the SC is only making more power till 4 or 5k rpm, then it will only have an advantage in first gear (for drag racing). If the turbo car is making more power after that, there's a lot of time to catch up.

It'll make a difference on your transmission too. Maybe not a nice one, though.

phillip and 8 maniac are trying to help you and you might want to try smaller wheel tire setup or on stocks use lower tire pressure. turn off the nanny too

I wouldn't recommend doing it all the time but it won't be too bad if it's just occasionally. I had about 65k miles on my 8 when I sold it and I would occasionally launch/practice launches and I didn't have any transmission issues when I sold it. Original everything.

Didn't even think about that... traction control is a quick way to ruin any quality launch.
