Maybe we should start a club. The Strange 8s
Count me in as a member of this group. No issues, no worries.

My 78 yo father came to visit this weekend, and finally got to see & drive my RX-8. Both my parents love the looks of the car, and after driving her, dad said "I certainly understand why you got it, as it is a joy to drive".

They can't stop talking about my RX-8.

My parents like it, the wife likes it, my teenagers like it, the neighbor kids like it, my work people like it, the people at the gas station like it, people in the parking lot like it, the car full next to me at the stop light likes it, the person passing me likes it.

But I like it most, because it is in my driveway, and I can drive it (and enjoy it) whenever I want. See you where it matters most, on the freeway of life.

2200 miles, no problems, just lovin it. Count me in on the Crazy 8's.

Up to 18 MPG, all city driving
No oil usage, 1/3 quart in 2200 miles
A/C works fine
Power feels good
Color is one of a kind
Handling is excellent
Very comfortable

Drive what you like, and like what you drive. I am.

th1rd3y3,

I managed to test drive both versions (auto, then 6spd) of the RX-8 this weekend and I have to say the car is excellent. I preferred the manual because there is a noticable difference in the acceleration between the two. The auto (IMO) was adequate, but the 6 speed was terrific. The seats were very comfortable, the audio system and instrumentation was really cool. I ran the AC and noted how it worked, since there have been some posting complaining about it. It worked fine (and this was on a humid Houston afternoon). It did cycle (like it should) and I did notice a slight warming and increased humidity in the air coming out of the vents, but the system did keep up and it kept the car very comfortable. I test drove the car with three people and it felt great, so I can only imagine what it would be like without the extra 340+ pounds onboard. I did ride in the back for a while and it was completely comfortable (I'm 5-10).

Unfortunately, I don't think the RX-8 is the car for me. I'm wanting a little more room and I'm waiting to get a look at an Acura TL in the flesh first.

Don't get me wrong, I think the RX-8 is a great car and it is still sticking in my mind as a possibility. Again I must stress that you drive the cars you are interested and maybe even some you aren't (just for comparison). As for me I am waiting at least a month or so (the TL arrives at the dealers in October).

Good luck.

FWIW, so far my car has no problems. [knock wood]

My acceleration is strong all the way to redline.
I'm averaging 22 mpg (80% highway driving).
A/C could be better but it gets the job done.
In 1200 miles, no oil used/added.

I had the pleasure of passing someone at highway speed using 3rd gear today. Usually, I've just been downshifting to 4th which gives plenty of power, but I was a little, uh, pressed for time this time. So into 3rd we went, and it was a total blast to blow by someone in this car. So smooth, the sound is great, then you look down and you're doing 89 mph! Whoops.

As for fuel economy, I'm definitely of the opinion that this car likes to be driven the way it should be driven. I've gotten my best mileage when I shift over 7000 rpm.
