Normal Life expectancy of a well maintained RX8

My dad used to own an RX7 and it lasted past 100,000 miles. I know these Renesis engines have their problems, but has anyone heard of or seen an RX8 past 100,000 miles?

I know they've only been around for 3 years now, but many people (myself included) can hit that number in this short of time.

I've had my car for over 2 years now and just went over 17k. I guess it will be awhile before I find out.

Since the FD's life expectancy is 60,000 miles the RX-8 will last 80,000 miles. No more, no less.

Ike if this car had F/I you'd probably be right. But it doesn't. So I think the engine has the potential to make it to 150k. Keyword here is engine.

yur apparently blind or ignorant...it's posted above.

the first part of the proof is as follows:

Since the FD's life expectancy is 60,000 miles the RX-8 will last 80,000 miles. No more, no less.

THERFORE....

WRONG! 80k, then BOOM!

this, class, is what it refurred to as the transitive property.

My first gen 7 was fine at 70K. My FD is doing great--it has 25K. And my 8 has 1300 and runs great!! I figure if I put miles on them at the current rate they should easily out live me. Guess I don't quality for your anecdotal study.

My '79 RX-7 had 125K miles on it when I sold it in 1999. It had a few problems with the points at 115K miles - the dealer couldn't adjust them and get them to stay adjusted for more than 5 miles - then they would shift in some way and the car would barely run. All of the manuals and the mechanic said that you had to be very careful adjusting them as not to over adjust them. I finally cranked those things on as hard as I could while sitting on the engine and it was still running like a champ 10K miles later when I sold it.

So to answer your question: Red ones last longer. (1614 miles on mine as of this morning - although my check engine light IS on...)

Everyone in here's right; the RX8 model is too young to make that kind of determination yet. I had a generation one RX7 that I drove to 180,000 miles. The engine's end seals blew, so I replaced the motor with a junkyard rotary and went on to drive it for another 55k before I sold the thing. I live in Ohio, so the winters up here will usually kill your underbody long before your engine dies.

Based on my previous experience, I'd be surprised if the expected service life of an RX-8 was anything less than 150k. If you garage it in the winter and take good care of it, I expect you could see mileage into the quarter million range or more... but that's true of just about any car.

Looks like it. I post exactly 1 post for every 8.64 miles I drive.

I need at least 120k out of mine and then it can go boom if it wants but I'm expecting about 200k.

And it will be some time still before we can know that the current recall has fixed the Rx8's hot weather problems.

My first engine lasted just past 50,000 miles.
