That's the problem. It is not the dealership's option. Mazda will give the lessee the first option of buying it out at the stipulated lease-end value. The dealership will be second in line to buy it at the lease-end value. The dealership cwill not buy the car out from Mazda and then sell it for a loss. Only if there is a profit potential will the dealer buy the end-of-lease car from the manufacturer.

MTLbroker has some very goodpoints. as far as open ended leasing goes, I would strongly recommend against that, the whole beauty of leasing is that you dont get yourself buried in a car. I have sold mazda's for two years and have never sold on of these or even had a customer that has done one in the past. And I like his point about walking in to a dealership and offering $350 over invoice , I have had customers do that and it has been some of my smoothest transactions because it is fair to everyone, If some one comes and tries to haggle me down under invoice than I am going to tell that person NO, because im sorry but I dont work for free, mcdonalds wont give you a 99cent cheeseburger for 79cents will they.

Well I looked at the value of my car at Edmunds and it looks like the buyout price is going to be very fair for the car. I need to think about this, though, because I'm nearing the max on miles and have several months left.

Hey MTLBroker, thanks for the info... actually thanks everyone for the info...

From the sounds of things, Mazda credit will not negotiate the lease-end buyout price at the end of the lease (atleast nobody has successful been able to) so it looks like returning the car is the most sensible option in financial perspective.

damn, i'm gonna miss the car, its still gets plenty of compliments and its still fun as hell to drive even after 3 yrs. time to start looking for a new car in the $25-30k price range, too bad there arent any new cars in the price range worth consider (or is there??), its the same choices i had 3 years back...

i really like the car, but i ain't paying $17.5k for the lease end buyout price when new rx8s are going for so cheap. however, mazda credit does not negotiate on buyout prices, either pay full or return the car...

i'm pretty sure you can negotiate with other car leases... is this just mazda credit playing hardball? has anyone successfully negotiated a cheaper buyout price?

BTW, i looked at how much rx8 are going for a dealer-only auctions - average conditions are going for ~14k (according manheim.com), i cant believe they rather me return than negotiate a fairer selling price... grrr...
That is what they told me. But my dealer originally told me it's something you discuss at the lease end. (ie they gave me false hope).

And my buy out was 21.5K (2 year lease tho). That's why I'm in a Mazdaspeed 6 now. I really REALLY wish i could've kept the 8. (In fact I'm tempted to trade in for an 8... but I probably won't... but SO TEMPTED. We'll see how I feel after zoom zoom live and driving the 8 again. hehe).

Both times that I bought out leases at less than the residual, the dealer "brokered" the deal. Perhaps they buy the car off the leasing co (at less than your residual) then flip it to you, making some profit along the way?

Hey DV, why don't you look into the MS 3?? MSRP is 24K for fully loaded! Won't be as slick looking as the 8's but, based on reviews, are really fun FWD car with lots of hp!!
