It would have been nice to have it in US vehicles, but it doesn't seem to operate that well from some reports on here.

Sometimes my fan stays on after I shut off the car. I have to restart the car and turn it off again.

Is that bad?

No...the fan may continue to run after you start the car if the engine computer feels the need to cool the engine further.

You may want to check the coolant and oil levels though just in case.

Ahh cool.

Yes, I check the oil regularly. Had to fill up last time.

Not only do you have the display, you also have the switch.
The fan speed **** also has an integrated press-switch. Try it. Push the dial, you'll feel it "click".

Everything need to make it work is already present - even the cabin thermometer.
But the logic is missing in the PCM and you would need some mighty powerful connections to make an EU spec PCM work in an NA car.

That sucks. what the hell are they thinking ~~~

If they already have most(if not all) stuff installed .... why not just enable it in the first place and sell it as a *feature*.

I have a feeling that MNAO is running by a bunch of idiots ...

I don't think that statement is correct. They are actually different parts for the fan speed ****. (one being an encoder, the other is a 5 detent potentiometer with no push).
I could double check to make sure....

I wish we had auto climate control on our cars, too. That said, I've heard many people who have it on other cars who are not too crazy about it, so… no big loss.

this isn't bad, but also not the point of this thread. I am talking about the interoir cabin fan for the A/C and heater (not the radiator fans you are talking about) and the fan speed display in the top screen where the radio info is displayed.

Thanks, Jeff. I ran out and pushed the ****- pretty weird. I remember I started this when I got my 8, so I wasn't sure if mine had a burnt-out display or not. Thanks for the input- even tho it's nearly 6 months late! j/k

My fan speed **** doesn't push in. I even tried a few times to make sure I had my technique down.

Some posters, like the one you are referring to, are just born with lower IQs.

The sensor for your cabin temp is located on the front bumper support

I talked to some guys on the german forum, and they agree. the climate control is really not all that. most of them preferred the manual over the automatic.

For me it's just wanting to have something not everybody else has

All the debate about the auto climate control ... but I recently rented a Mazda 6 from Hertz that had it - it's the same one as in the JDM and Euro models, and frankly, it sucks. I like the manual one in the RX-8 much better.

But the thing about the auto climate control is that you can control it just like a manual. The best of both worlds even if it is a mediocre, at best, auto climate control.

haha this thread has gone off on a few different tangents. I wasn't talking about auto climate controls at all, just the fan speed indicator in the dash. Now I know (I posted this thread a few weeks after getting my 8 to see if my light was burnt out something) that the light is associated with auto climate control we can't get here.

But Car&Driver is right; it functions just like a manual, so you can switch back and fourth anyways. Have which ever pleases you.

Well the fan indicator on the central dash display is integrally related to the auto climate. You can't really talk about one without the other.
