FOr some, that's all that matters. Plus the perception of the rotary is not very good right now. Thank the FD for that.

I have had a lot of people stare at my car, especially at gas stations, and ask what kind of car is that? When I tell them, it's a Mazda Rx 8, some reply, " is that with that Wankel engine?" I tell them, yes it is.

Point is, this car will never be a strong seller, regardless because of the rotary engine, it just scares off a lot of people.

I think if mazda put some money into marketing the engine like commercials about the size, the power, the awards the engine has recieved etc, it would help the image.

until ppl start to learn that they have a choice not to buy what every one else has. then yah rx8 will be the underdog. Also i work for state farm, and im happy to say that i got a ex350z and a exm3 owner now driving rx8. and to this day both say man im glad you told me to test drive the rx8. and i had ask both of them why they never test drove a rx8 before buying the car the once had. both said, well these are the cars that every one else drives, so it has to be good

but like the other post saying when they pull up at a gas station etc, they get ppl asking wow what kind of car is that etc. i sometimes get ppl asking me is that a porsche? i look at my car and think to my self, how do these ppl think that is a porsche lol.

Sales of virtually all Mazda vehicles are down, save the Miata which is the brightest spot in Mazda sales. However, with RX-8 sales down almost 50% YTD, you do have to wonder about its fate in the future. There is a point at which the economics of the RX-8 no longer make sense for Mazda, regardless of the engineers dream.

Well, personally I don't care if this Rx-8 lives or dies, because I already have one. And that's what matters to me.

Now I would like to see more advancement for the rotary, and if the 8 dies, there probably will not be much of an advancement. So in that way I think It would be bad for the 8 to disapear.

But don't forget about the Hydrogen/Gas Rx-8 that's promised...

See Mazda hasn't left the rotary future to chance. They've already considered everything everybody here has already mentioned. I'm sure they know what they are doing.

the list goes on.

I guess the reason MNAO didnt do much of marketing is because, the 8's "on paper spec" is reallly horrible compare to the rest of the cars. but people who knows about Rotary and the Mazda's spirit(one of the Japan's marketing term) will buy it. This car just requires a lot more skills to drive and when you do. it smokes quite alot of cars out there with "higher on paper specs".

They will not stop Rotary production (unless dumb Ford being an ***), cuz its like a signature of Mazda. No Rotary, No Mazda

^ I concur

If the rotary dream dies, it only makes my car even more special to me.

At the bank the other day a kid of about 13 told me "That's the sweetest Lamborghini I've ever seen!" I just smiled and said thanks and went on my way. Some people are so funny sometimes.

If it goes away I was a great run. The 3rd Gen RX-7 only lasted 3 years so this would be in line with that... No biggie. I got mine.

Great post Playdoh.

The fact the RX8 is on the list at the end of the Wiki entry should effectively put this debate to bed.

Unless, that is, you yourself were the author of the entry!

I sometimes wish that the production of the 8 will stop for twofold reasons; one, if they continue, they WILL most likely make a mazdaspeed version of it, making me incredibly angry. And two, if they stop now, it will continue to be a somewhat rare car on the roads, which I like.

I've always felt that turbochargers should be reserved for aftermarked upgrades.

Plus, when I was looking to get an 8, most dealers in my area didn't have many in stock and nor where they planning on getting any in, so I asked why. They told me it's because demand for "sports cars" don't usually pick up till mid-summer. Therefore, they don't start putting orders for them in till early summer and even then they only order a couple.

That's why it's a "sports car", cars in this class don't usually get amazing gas mileage. But even still it's not that bad, I get about 21 city which is only a 3 miles less then my old car got.

why would you want them to stop production just for rare status? Less cars produce = less replacement parts/more expensive parts. If you really wanted rare, get a ferrari or bugatti.

The 3rd Gen RX7 didn't last three years. Mazda produced the car until 2002. 2003 they took a break, and came out with the RX8.

Your statement would be correct if you said Mazda sold the 3rd Gen RX7 in the USA for only three years.

Just google RX7 and see what comes up. I'm too lazy to do it now since I'm at work.

I'm not talking 250k plus rare, I'm talking not seeing one every time you go out for a drive rare. (mustang, anyone?)
