Uhh you're going to add a turbo and expect better fuel economy?

To make me purchase a 2nd gen RX8 when compared to it's future competion (Camaro, Challenger, Mustang, Evo, STI, 350z and G35 coupe) Mazda would need to do the following:

1. Increase HP by 25% and Torque by 50%
2. Increase MPG by 2-4.
3. Eliminate the possibility of flooding.
4. Convertible version would be nice.

Now to do this some possible ideas. Direct injection should up hp and MPG some. Then add a small assist electric motor/battery (single mode hybrid I think it's called). This gives some boost off the line and increases MPG. It would also be used to spin the fuel out of the engine when it's shut off cold.

Everytime I read one of these threads, it makes me feel guilty for loving the car as is...

For all those asking for hp figures of 280+, the renesis will have to rev to 10,000 in order to achieve that given its measly torque. And who knows with the natural torque curve drop off if that would even be possible without having to redesign ports, rework other major aspects of thr rotary.

Sure, but Mazda has limited resources (they're not exactly Toyota or Honda budget-wise) and whatever they'd maybe like to allocate to rotary R&D is most likely nixed by the $hitbags at Ford.

And those cost a tad more money and only have two seats. The key thing was to buy the RX8 again. Right now its the best car on the market for me. In 4 years as it is now? No. A Camaro, Evo X and used 335i Convertible come to mind.

taller 6th gear would be the biggest help.

a real oil pressure gauge would be nice.

seperate oil injection tank would be nice... or at least the option.

rotary engine begs to be a hybrid..

diesel would be nice.. turbo diesel would be better.

the hydrogen rotaty sucks ***** for performance and mileage... they can keep it.

1. Homing robot
2. Automatic jacks
3. Extra grip on tires at the push of a button
4. Water-tight bubble for underwater driving
5. Flux capacitor
6. Ejector seat
7. Machine guns
8. Three-way rotating license plates
9. Bat Atomic Batteries and Bat Turbines
10. Professor Pat Pending Convert-A-Car features

Seriously, though, I'd consider buying another one just the way it is.

I love the 8 the way it is, so it wouldn't take a lot to keep me interested. When the time comes, I'll investigate options; but the 8 will definitely be one of them if Mazda still offers it.

I too like the way it is...HOWEVER, I still think more power is necessary.

FYI...The hydrogen powered rotary is already using Direct Injection so it is possible. If they make another Rx-8 with 280HP to 300HP then that would be awsome.

Anything is possible with research and while they do not have the reasources Toyota/Honda has...They seem more committed to there racing efforts. I think time is the question here and it may take longer than we'd like but they should come up with a solution.

And you know what...I hope they give us the ability to adapt the new engine technology (I.E. buying crate motors ETC) cause I would be interested. Like I said...I like my car and its cheaper than buying a new one.

I look at what else is available for the same price & I can't see anything else Id rather have . It's a hard thing to admit that our cars are inferior in many ways to the likes of an EVO STI S2000 350z but I still wouldn't have any of those . Why ? because the 8 is absolutely without question the sexiest looking one of that bunch. Performance wise its close enough & if you add FI its not only sexier but its faster as well.
For a lot of people the numbers really matter & thats why the 8 really needs to be up there with those other cars if it wants to stay in the game . For me - I never buy new so waiting for a more powerful 8 is even less of an option - I must do it myself .
So my answer - more power
