The whole issue regarding the noise when you let-out the clutch... It was thought to be my throw-out bearing aswell... I had the throw-out bearing (actually, I had the whole clutch assembly) replaced 2 times because of the noise and it still continued...

I had my Mazdaspeed CAI installed in my garage at home by an ex Mazda mechanic that my father worked with for years... He started the car up and instantly said that the noise wasn't the throw-out bearing, but was a bearing in the front of the transmission...

I took it back in again to the dealer again and told them to take their time and find the noise.... They came back and diagnosed it to bea bearing on the input shaft in my transmission... It will be replaced under warranty in the next couple of weeks. I'll let you know how things go.

The "chirping noise" is NOT a normal noise... It doesn't matter how many RX8's are plagued with the issue, it shouldn't be considered "normal" I am told by a few mechanics (current and the ex mazda mechanic that I know) that it isn't something that is likely to fail on me and that the only reason to bother getting it fixed is if I can't live with the noise... Well, I can't live with the noise because it's ******' embarassing pulling into a parking-lot or stopping at a red-light and all you can hear is a damn chirping noise... I just rest my foot on the clutch very lightly and the noise disappears, but it's rather inconvenient...

TragicallyHip, thanks for the input.

Can you give me the name of your dealership, if mine gives me any grief about looking into it, I'll point them there, since your a fellow canuck in neighboring Ottawa, they'll give that more credence than if I tell them some dealership in ChickenLips, Arkansaw ( ) has found it could be a tranny bearing.

hi ho!

Ok! nice. I went to my local mazda dealer and pointed out that a car with 40k should not have a bearing thats defect in the transmission. haha.. such a idiotic sentence. but, still.. The thing is that Mazda said they wanted to fix this for me.. They said I could demand them to have this work done.
So in 2 weeks I got a new bearing and no ugly tranny sound from my gearbox. hopefully without me paying a nickle.

So. the question is:

Is there any thing else I should change during my visit at the mazda?
I mean.. Like new gearbox oil - of course, but is there any more?
Light flywheel? new upgraded clutch? anything else that is "easy" to do when u first got a mechanic under my car changing the bearing in the gearbox.?

You can do a transmission and differential fluid change while he's at it.
If it is not too late, you can get him to upgrade the flywheel to a lighter one.

update!

070808.

I brought my baby to the local mazda tech this morning.
They said they where going to change the upper bearing in the transmission box.

I called them now for some min. ago and they had bad news..
It looks like the gearbox is in a pretty bad shape, so they had to order other bearings from belgia today. That means the car have to stay at the mechanic location for 1 week.. it might be even longer with my "luck" .....

but for the record... I asked the mechanic "master" and he said that is was going to be free for charge.. becouse of the "extended" warranty he gave me for 2 weeks ago. He promised that I shouild get it for free, and it looks like he is a man for he's words.

hopefully they wont find any more trouble under/down/up there..

This might not be so exciting to read, but I'm, just filling in this information in case it can be interesting for someone.

sad to be witout a car for 1 (maybe more weeks), but still, I get it for free.. I know its expensive so.. (looking for a car nr.2 as I speak).

last update!

ok.. My mazda dealer had the transmission box completely out, but they didnt find ANYTHING wrong with it.......

But the thing is.... That the chief said to me.. If we cant find the problem we'll have to buy you a new one....

ok.
ok ok

ok! :D

Thats what I call good service.. So now I got my car back with a completely new transmission system :D
but.........hehe... the sound is still there though. (A little bit "weaker and not as loud). hehe..
Maybe its like some of you guys said: Its normal to have a little bit sound in it ! hehe

Maybe the mazda guys changed and bought me a new one for absolutely no reason.. But i'm not going to research anything more regarding that:P

I'm just going to sleep well at nights knowing my gearbox will take alot more fast gearing now that it's gone about 1mile....

wednesday, 20th , my car is going to the dealer again.. they are going to change the right front light and the two back lights.. New lights where also put under "guarantee" but I said I wanted to pay for the work..either "under" or "over" the table . Just my little way to show that I appreciate their good service.

So to all the mazda owners. mazda really knows how to threat a customer! At least, thats what I experienced.

over and out..

Hello. Are you the one who bought the red high power from near Bergen? I saw this car when I bought mine. It was priced very low and with low milage on it. I ended up buying a black one. But over to what I was going to ask you about. I too got something inside my lights, both tail lights and front lights. So you are saying you are going to get this free of charge? Which Mazda dealer is this? I have a lot condens (or what it is called) in the tail lights, and it`s very annoying

My car is imported from USA, and it was registrered the first time 18th of november 2004. I wonder if I still have some sort of warranty left on the car...

wow. How did you know that? :D Was it a wild guess or? Yes. it was very low milage, and the price was at least 20-30k NOK below what I'm expecting to get if I sell it now.. ANd the best of all, it was actually the honest seller I ever bought a car from. The week after I bought the car I met him in Agia Napa. He's a really nice guy.

and back to you're question. Yeah! Its condens getting in through the plastic, even though its impossible to see where from..

Why I'm gettting this free for charge is 2 reasons.
I'm a seller, I know how to lead the the outcome in a conversation to where I want:p
hehe. and last but not last, the big fact that mazda dealers in norway tend to be quite good in customer service..
I think thats becouse its a rare car here in norway, and if you're determined to not give up, they will give you what you want in the end :P
Why should they deny you to get new lights if you say that it is a weakness with this car, and they cant even come to an logical conclusion why its letting in condens. ( I MEAN.... When most mazda dealers in norway haven't ever had a rx-8 in for even a service.. )
If they cant see any marks, cleavage, crack, *****, crink crank cronk... (dont know the correct english word for it.....), BUT the water/condens is still coming in, you got a very good case.
check that first.

How much km has youære car got on its neck?
They said I didnt have a warranty that would provide (in my case) a new gearbox, and a new set of lights, but they ultimately did.
A dealer in Sandnes took care of my lights, and I had the dealer in Hamar take care of my gearbox. Both dealers where nice and customer friendly.

Where do you live?

The number of RX-8s for sale in Norway is very low, so if someone on a forum says he just bought a car from a particular place in Norway, it`s not so hard to find out which car he bought You bought a High Power, and it`s not many High Power for sale, at least it wasn`t when you bought.

My car has 53.000 km on it now. I changed the original exhaust this saturday to a Agency Power catless exhaust. It was so loud I got a headace when I drove for over an hour. I never though it would make that much sound. I love having a car that sounds a lot, but this is just too much. I`m putting the original cat back on as soon as possible.

About the light, I will be trying getting them for free. I just have to make a plan for what I`m going to say to them Thanks for the advice

The gearbox sounds are normal, as we've all said for a while As long as they don't sound like the gearbox is about to fall into the street, but compared to other cars I'd say it's a bit louder yes.

But a new gearbox is nice :D

The dealer in Sandnes sees plenty of RX-8's though, so it's not that rare over here.

nexib and pf-racing: where in norway do you guys live?

Would have been pretty nice to have a rx8 gathering sometime!

and yeah, pf-racing. VERY NICE info about the "to much-sound-when changing the cat".. I was thinking about doing that, but now, IF I also change the cat when Im changing the exhaust, Im going to do alot more research first. I to, dont want it to sound much... A touch of formula 1 sound is ofcourse sexytime!, but it shouldnt be to much... Like many other cars, like volvo 240, nissan200sx and so on, the rx-8 got the little extra when it comes to pure "racing sound"..

So we dont want to ruin the nice sound that already is... we just want to make it a little bit more "norwegian word for it - TYDELIGERE" :P (forgot in english... :P )

I dont believe anyone will understand this loong letter.. :P The "jumping" (again, cant the english word for it) is most when 1.gear in about 1000rpm - 4000rpm.

Some times this also happens when I drive NOT WITH FULL THROTTLE all the way up to 7000k.. It makes a little bittle jump when passing 7000k..

This is what I think about this. I think it is the ports opening giving a feeling of extra power as mine does this too as the 3-4 ports open around 4500 rpm and the 5-6 ports opening around 7500 rpm

I believe this is what it is and its normal kinda like a 4 barrel carb opening the secondarys.

may i recommend a exhaust for my norwegian brothers that are interested in a catalytic back exhaust system?
-FUJITSUBO legalis R: idles just as quiet as stock. sounds mean under full throttle, yet not too intrusive on the natural engine sound. the upside/downside of this exhaust is that there is a resonance chamber to more tune out the exhaust pulses the older rotary's naturally have. (honda S2000 are among a few that have the same resonance chamber, damper, whatever you wanna call it)

-RACINGBEAT rev8: this is one exhaust system that is pretty much 2 oval cannisters connected by a Y pipe. while many other popular system out there are of similar design... this one is priced right, so why hunt? however, this system is also of the quieter mature tone... it differs from the fujitsubo in price savings, and it has the rotary exhaust pulse one may love/hate. it is slightly louder than the fujitsubo unit.

look for some exhaust clips for a better analysis. and see if you can tell the difference from what i picked out. i have also heard both systems in person... and both are great!

You know where I'm from if you flip my nick the other way around and look in your emails

I'm really happy with the sound of my Mazdaspeed dual exhaust though. Pretty quiet at idle with just a deeper sound, and really aggressive (but not riced) on acceleration above 4000 rpm.

I`m from Spydeberg (Østfold) but now I`m living in Oslo. An RX-8 meeting should be nice. I met a guy this saturyday from Hønefoss with a Titanium Grey High Power with Mazdaspeed exhaust. We compared our exhuast and the Mazdaspeed is a bit more quite than the Agency Power (that I got). The Agency Power makes a dark idle tune and it`s not too loud. I like it very much

I can give you an advice, if you run NA do not change your cat. If you run turbo you can change to a cat delete pipe, otherwise it will make too much noise. I like it when it makes big noise but this was just too much. It felt like my front seats was "massage chairs" og my windows og everything was vibrating. Everytime I let go of the gas pedal I heard a *poff* from the exhaust. When I reached high rpm I got flames. The sound was dark og loud up to 4000 rpm. After 4000 rpm it got even louder but not so dark. The first day I got a headace, the next days I just got *øresus/dotter i ørene(Don`t know the english word for it, sorry)* everytime I drove. I have read about guys on this forum complaining about too much sound, but I didn`t think it would be so extremely loud!

øresus/dotter i ørene = when you are at a rock concert and after two hours of loud music the only thing you can hear afterwards is like biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip.
