I've had alot of cars in my life. I am 36 years old now. I have had the v8 Camaro. It was way fast. I had a Mustang Cobra and it was even faster. I have driven my friends Corvette and his Mustang Saleen, super fast. Me and my friends have always had sports cars. Out of all the cars I have driven my manual 8 is the funnest drive. My friends totally agree. I have basic mods as you can see below but honestly there is no other car that drives or sounds like the 8. Unfortunately for you an automatic is just not the same as the manual. As so many others have said learn to drive manual. My sister bought a Jetta GLI a couple years ago. She had never driven stick before purchasing the car. I took her out for like two hours and she got the hang of it. Its really not that difficult. I for one would never buy an auto sports car.

also driving a manual is safer than autos. when you drive a manual you participate the traffic in front of you.

As several (myself included) have said, the Eclipse probably best matches your parameters. But, I think everyone here would agree that the RX-8 is the best one for your entertainment dollar. The engine alone is worth the price of admission. The transmission is slick and easy to manage with the nice linear throttle (I mention that after my Audi TT throttle with its non-linear tip in). It comes with a suspension that brings it all together. With a 0-60 time of around 6 seconds, it's plenty quick.

You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't at least test drive one. Maybe drive an auto and a manual to see for yourself. I've had mine for less than two months. I wish I had bought one years ago.

...i've gone from a Saturn Sky to an Eclipse GT to the 8 all in the course of seven months...the Eclipse has a ton of power and torque but the handling?...might as well have been driving a Taurus...it's heavy and the steering is almost numb....the 8 is nimble and quick, but i agree with most...you've gotta' have the six-speed to get the full experience

Yea, like I said before, the Eclipse just did not impress me. Maybe it was just the particular model I drove. I took it on the interstate to test it's full acceleration and my mom was with me (yes, my mom was with me only because I have to driver her around for a while until she recovers from her eye surgery, I had just picked her up from the eye doctor...anway). I look to my mom and say "did you feel that???" she says "yea...I don't like that" It felt very unstable. Maybe the tires needed rotating.

But the overall acceleration was nicer than the Tib but I feel like with the weight of the car, I could put simple mods on a tib and have better performance than the 4 cylinder Eclipse. We're comparing a 2900 lb car to a 3500 lb car. Weight matters.

I just don't want to test drive a manual and stall in the middle of the road and then get hit and then get blamed for it and get in trouble with both the ins company and the dealer ship. That's why until someone is brave enough to let me drive around in their stick for an hour....I won't touch one from a dealership.


Oh....and I checked with the ins company (Allstate) and I was REALLY surprised with the results! A 2007 Eclipse GT V6 would cost me $136 a month. A 2007 Tiburon GS 2.0L would cost me $124 a month. I currently pay around $60 a month for my Cavalier. I was expecting close to $200 for the Eclipse.

I'll do my best to try an RX8 out but it's going to come down to two things.....price..and availability when ready to purchase. God knows when this damn house will sell. My mom and I moved into it to help with the maintenance. It's been on the market for three years. When it sells, I get 10 grand. I'm thinking soon only because we have a new realtor and she has already had an open house for a possible client.

I'll completely agree with that. I don't know if the V6 matters or not but the 4 cylinder model handled like crap on the interstate. And my mom drives a Taurus, I know how it handles. I hate it. Lots of play in the steering. I could not say that for the Tib.....hahahahhahah....when we were testing the Tib, my mom turned to me and said "hows the handling....(with no traffic around us and no cops insight) I jolted the Tib left to right left to right left to right...... "how's that for handling?" lol. tight as a ten year old. (that was wrong... sorry lol)

the Eclipse I tested was an 07. I also did not find the interior to be very attractive. But with the right engine, I think I could look past that lol.

It was an '07....the 6-cylinder is a beast, but the power is almost negligible with the car's weight...in which most of it is over the front wheels...

.......the interior is pretty staid....nice Rockford Fosgate stereo and really nice seats, though.....the car just felt more like a sedan than a coupe

sure from a taurus the tib is better, but the rx8 is totally on a different planet.

yea, I figured, that's why I say when it comes down the time when I am ready to purchase, If one is available to me within driving distance of purchasing and at the right price, I would definitely look into one for purchasing.

Not yet. There is a guy selling an automatic about an hour away from me. I emailed him back this morning about trying one out on wednesday. I haven't heard back from him yet. Despite people telling me I won't like it, I believe in what my former guitar teacher once told me, "buying a guitar is a lot like buying a car, until you have it in your hands and feel every inch of what is has to offer, you can't say yes or no to it".

As the other guy above you said, I'd love a Genesis...but I don't have the budget for one lol. That was the first thing my other car enthusiast buddy said to me when I told him I test drove a Tib lol. I was like "do you really think I can afford $22 grand lol?"

Just sounds like you never were really taught well.
It took me - taking the car out on my own with noone with me to learn properlly because everyone who tried to "teach" me, kept talking so loud and i couldnt get a feel for the car. if that makes sense...
But as soon as i had the car alone, no music it was really easy to "feel' the car.

I would never buy a sports car and buy an automatic =P Just my 2cents.

The new Camaro is a truly amazing car. I was considering one, but I will wait until the used prices start falling.

In the meantime, since used RX8 have gotten so cheap, I looking to get into one. I have a not-inconsiderable amount of time behind the wheel of one, but I have yet to own one.

And btw, it is just as easy to stall a car with a big V8 as one with a small 4 (or rotary in this case). Especially if it's been modified. They tend to get tunes that make clutch engagement much more difficult than stock. They also tend to get lighter flywheels (since modern V8 cars tend to be heavy and come with a boat anchor for a stock flywheel) which makes clutch engagement very finicky. You get used to it, but it can take time, especially if you are new to driving manual.

And it is worth pointing out that the RX-8 is an extremely fun to drive car. For one thing, it has probably the greatest chassis response and steering feel of any car I have driven. And it is sooooooooo at home going fast. It really WANTS to be driven hard. And as the driver, it is hard not to.

As someone who has spent time flogging both an RX-8 and a CTS-V, the 8 will put a larger smile on your face. The V was probably more rewarding to drive, but only because you feel like a hero if you can make it go fast without falling off the road.
