Newbie questions about Renesis engine

I see that the Rx-8 comes with different horsepower levels the best one being the 237HP 6-speed version. I would like to buy a Renesis engine to put into a 2nd generation RX-7 and was wondering what the difference was in the engines with the different outputs. Is it just externals like exhaust and ECU calibrations or are there actual internal differences like compression ration etc?
I'd like to know because there is quite a bit of difference in price between the lower HP versions and the 237HP version and if the differences are just externals I'd rather buy the lower HP engine and get a programmer/ exhaust etc

Thanks for any help you can give me!

the 04-05 4speed autos came with a 4 port engine. the 04-08 MTs and the 06-08 Autos come with a 6 port engine. the reason the hp is lower on the autos is because the trans can rev up as high mainly.

You might want to check on the transmission too to see if it fits.

You want to swap it into a fc? Why? And anyways, if you have to ask this...

Are you planning on doing the swap yourself?
You should search the rx7 forums for this, it comes up fairly often. Its not a simple job by any means.

if you have to ask, this is not a job for you to do.

Cancel the idea.

Well I'm an ASE certified Master Automoblie Technician specializing in Ferraris and Lambos so although I was unaware of the differences between the different Renesis engines I think that the job is well within my abilities. Now go eat humble pie.

Because I find the fc such a pleasant looking little machine. And I had an 88 before set up for SCCA track racing with Koni coil-overs, Eibach springs, poly bushings, fat sway bars, strut tower braces etc and it seemed to handle as well as a Ferrari 360 or an NSX (of course it didn't have the HP or panty-dropping power but it only cost about 1/30th of the 360).
The RX-8 is a wonderful car but I prefer the RX-7 it seems sportier and to my eyes better looking.

There is no point to doing it other then saying you did it. Assuming you are planning to keep it n/a, the only thing you will gain is a little horsepower and fuel mileage. Personally if I was going to swap the engine in a FC, I certainly would not put in a renesis..
I am sure you can do it, i just don't see any reason why you would.

Sorry people are being such naysayers here. I bet if you could make it work you'd have some FC owners lining up to have to drop them into their cars.

As people said the 4-port vs. 6-port and all the things that come with that. Different Intake manifold, different injectors, different PCM programming. You'll find it much easier to purchase a high power motor and all the required stuff than build up a 4-port. That and there is more aftermarket support for the 6-port motor.

I say go for it and let us know how it goes.

the hardware is not the issue. it is mating the ecu..

angel i think you would be the king of that comment..

btw.. i am pissed that you were not at the miami race...

if you plan to put the rx8 motor in a rx7. it is a ecu thing or mech throttle. thing.. but wait all the ports work off the ecu.. crap. what do i know..

I guess when I think about putting money into my car, I look for power so it doesn't make sense to me. If you are looking for power in the long run then you will be severely hampered and it would be more worthwhile to stick with TII, or even 20b. If you are just looking for a project, go for it.

I think all you need is engine mounts, ECU, flywheel, maybe you'll need to adapt the omp, oh and you'll have to consider the throttle body.
