awesome r3 man, glad you came back to the family. I wonder what your friends/family thought when you were getting another one!

That is a sweet ride. I'm curious how much better the R3 suspension is than the 2004-2008 RX8s... with the Bilstein shocks. Tell me how it handles.

Well I decided that it was time to get a second car again... and my wife KNEW I wanted another Rx8. So we discussed it and decided it would probably have to wait until late summer.

But of course, I kept looking for a good deal... and my wife tolerated it.

Then RiderCoach Lar told me about this black 2009 that was still unclaimed at Biggers Mazda in the Chicago area. They offered me the car at a killer price, and suddenly all thoughts of waiting till late summer disappeared. Thankfully, I have a very tolerant wife who is easily bribed

As far as friends and family.. well, family thought I was crazy since they do not trust the rotary. But they can't argue with the deal I got. Friends always thought I was crazy.. tho it seems a lot of them love the looks of the R3. I have gotten more comments on the wheels than anything else!

It's hard for me to do a back to back comparison of the 2004 I had and the R3, since I have been driving some pretty squidgy stuff in between (Jetta TDI's and Audi Allroads) but the R3 does feel a good bit stiffer, and the turn in is VERY sharp. I'm having to recalibrate myself, since I find myself almost clipping curbs at corner apexes! If I had a stock suspended Rx8 I would recommend the bilsteins, stiffer but its not nearly as harsh as I expected.

I love it. I have my batmobile back.

I have bilsteins on backorder. Waiting for them to come in... cant wait.

Have any mod's planned?

I believe some new springs, sways, exhaust, intake, bhr ignition are in order for you.

I thought the 2004-08 Rx8 normal suspension's OEM tokico shock is NOT interchangable with the special edition's Bilstein shocks??

I am getting new Bilstein HD shocks and Progress tech springs. I didnt know there was some sort of special edition Bilstein Shock made specifcally for the R3. If there is, then it probably will not work on the Series 1 rx8.

Mods are definitely in the cards. Full exhaust and intake, light flywheel and clutch. I'm not sure what the stock flywheel weight is, but its too heavy and not snappy enough.

Not terribly interested in springs.. if I lower this thing, it will not make it into my driveway since I live in a new development and the road has not been "finished" yet. So it's a couple inches low, and I don't wanna leave my nice R3 bumper on the curb a piece at a time. Already had to make a small ramp using asphalt cold patch so my VW Sportwagen could make it in!

Stock for a good while tho... can't believe how tight everything feels. Motor, transmission.. hope the tranny loosens up a bit actually. Probably do the clutch pedal bracket sooner rather than later.

Nice! Now get yourself some real oil (not that thin 5w20 crap) and a case of Idemitsu Premix and you'll be good to go!
