New RX-8 Owner -- Do I want the Extended Protection Plan?? Please Help

Just bought a new 2009 RX-8 sport yesterday. Dealer put on a little pressure to buy an extended protection plan. There were four different types ranging from, I think, $800 - $2500. I passed because I didn't really understand what they covered and extended warranties are usual a rip-off. Dealer told me they'd give me a couple days to think about it.

Do I want a protection plan? Are they worth the money? I used the search but was a little confused reading the various threads. Any help appreciated.

On a new '09 RX-8 I would NOT get an extended protectin plan.

If it was used I might do it but not new.

They put pressure on you because they were worry about that they don't make enough money out of you.

rx8 is something a little different than other cars, so it's up to you..... I also passed it with my brand new 2008. But I anticipated very little mileages on my 8 in the next few years...

I believe that you have so much time, or can even do it before the factory warrenty is up, until then I wouldn't worry about it. Plus you can look at other warrenty companies to compare coverage's and price before you actually pick one.

I'm in agony today reading on this board how little people where able to get their RX-8s for. I paid 22.5k, no options, before TTL and the salesguy acted like he'd have to sell off one of his kids over how little commision he would be getting from me!

You didn't get a bad price, and salespersons are always going to try to sell it to you for as much as possible, gotta keep twisting their arms.

I didn't bother with the extended warranty for mine.

Extended warranties are a rip-off 99.9% of the time. Save your money.

I would never bother with an extended warranty unless the car had a horrible repair history, but then I wouldn't buy it in the first place.

Don't get it. Unnecessary. Those plans are usually just for the dealer to make money. I have a 2004, "launch" rx8 and never had a prob. Actually, i had a tailight replace because it turned into an aquarium.

Depends on the coverage and how much. Also is the extended warranty through a 3rd party?
