New Proud RX8 owner
Hi ya folks,
New proud owner of a 2006 RX8 GT...Got it last friday...
From friday till today (wednesday) the love affair is still growing. I cant seem to grasp how much of a driver's car this machine is...A marvel of design and engineering, not to mention the built quality and material used. Simply blown away...This is M3 territory here invaded by the RX8..
The car have 85000 km and never seen winter...The interior is brand new so the outside. The folks at my local Mazda dealer painted the pront bumper cause of some minor scratches but nothing major.
The Mazda rep was kind enough to tell me about the regular maintenance of the engine. Not that i didnt researched it for 5 month though...
Got a bit sczred by reading the FAQ and the caring you need to do for this car to run properly. But afterwards it acurred to me that its not of a big a deal. I mean i dont mind as a enthousist to chek the oil after each fill up, change the entire ignition each 30k. Rev the engine from time to time to 9000 rpm (actually will be happy to)...
Yes it will cost a bit more in gaz cause of the 91 octane fuel and oil but who cares...couple of bucks more = load of driving heaven...
Coming from a mustang gt v8 torque i found it hard to get used to the 5000 rpm pickup of the 8...But after a day of driving i adjusted my driving technics and voila...
I mean im used to the gaz consumption cause my car that i traded in was A Mustang GT 2002...So they are are similar in gaz eating ability.
And to be on the safe side i purchased a bumper to bumper Warranty from mazda for 3 years or 60k more for $2500...The mazda sale person strongly suggested it and it was justified.
I still need to go back next monday for them to intall a brand new back right tail light. The one that always fills with water..My keyless entry is not working even with a new battery installed..A chek engine light and the famous red radiator dashboard light which i dought they can do anything about it...
Im having a bit of hesitation on first gear and a rough idle below 1000 rpm when the car gets hot. Is it cause she is due for an ignition system replacement at 85000 km?
All in all my only regret is wy i didnt dicover this car earlier on. lol...
Best of regards
Rabih

If it hasn't been done in the last 30k, plugs, wires and coils. There are several DIYs posted for it if you are a do it yourselfer.
Congrats. You will continue to love it more and more. 2-1/2 years later, I'm still lovin it like the day I got it.

I agree with tcole. I bought mine in 2007 and still love it. Wash it weekly and take as much care of it as I can. It is a money pit and I have had every issue that you could have with it, but I don't care I still love it. There are preventative measures for almost all problems that occur in the 8, such as the clutch pedal reinforment. I would suggest that before your clutch pedal decides to snap one day when your driving 80 on the highway.

The check engine light has to be scanned so you know what the problem is. Might have something to do with the hesitation. The radiator light most likely requires a new overflow bottle which has the float assembly inside. That's the usual culprit. When I bought my RX-8 a couple of months ago, it had the same issue. Make sure it gets fixed. The keyless entry they should also fix. I thought it was an un-needed bit of foo-foo, but after using it for a week, I was hooked. It a nice convenience.

Not sure if they changed the ignition system bit will do it myself anyways..it's fairly simple...I watched the do it yourself guide as well...
Driving to work 15 min ago it did hesitate on first gear...maybe I need to build up some rev before picking up...if I do launch the first gear at 2000 rpm there is no hesitAtion...but below that..oh lord put your neck restraints...

Is that a recall??? Covered by the extended warranty??? Or I need to go to my local mechanic and tel him weld here and weld there..

8s dont have a clutch cable. its weak spot welds on the pedal assembly that break. mazda will replace it if it breaks but i dont think its an inproved design. there is a bracket for it aftermarket but i just unbolted the pedal and welded it. no more worries

iirc the bracket is from raceroots but seriously its much cheaper and less complicated to weld it. you can search for the thread because im lazy to look for it lol. pretty simple tho.i think there are two elec. connectors on the pedal assembly and i think three bolts. once its out you will see the crappy spot welds. the hardest part is crawling under the dash. if you dont have a welder take it to someone that does and they will see what needs to be welded

These are things that your bumper to bumper warranty should take care of.

yes the pedal is connected to a sheetmetal bracket. when you unbolt it from the firewall the entire clutch pedal assembly comes out. its pretty straight foward
