Smile new possible rx8 owner

Hi, my names Matt and i live in IL. I am currently looking into purchasing this basically brand new 2008 white rx-8. But, before I do that i have some questions and I figured this would be the site to ask them from the people that own them. Oh, and its my first stick shift

How hard is it to find someone that can fix a rotary engine if it breaks?
Is it hard to mantain?
How long do you let it warm-up before driving at all?
Does cold weather have any negative effects?

Thanks in advance =)

There is so much i wanted to know before i bought my 8. This site answers all questions, including the ones you've asked. All you have to do is search, i found it's much easier to just search on google and youll find a link to this site with multiple post options on the topic you want. The one thing this site can't prepare you for is the gas...haha. You read the gas mileage isn't that great, but until you spend like 100 a week on gas, you never fully understand...

Mazda dealers are pretty good about helping you out, since the engine core has 8 year 100k mile warranty. After that, though, you better start learning/having friends who can work on em. There are rotary shops all around the country.

It's relatively easy to maintain. Make sure you do an oil change every 3k miles, keep oil topped off since it uses a bit to lubricate the seals in the combustion chamber, and you should be good. Additional things like Premixing are a plus.

Let it warm up until the car comes to normal operating temperature. The needle should be standing straight up.

Cold doesn't really affect the 8 any more than other cars. Some people buy block/oil pan heaters just in case.

I'm in Canada and so far my 8 has been starting fine, except for today, today it rev'd to 4 and then 3 for like 4 seconds..then dropped normally. My local Mazda dealer told me it was normal, and I think I've found other people here who say the same. He also mentioned that Mazda doesn't make or recommend block heaters for RX8's.

I can guarantee you're going to get no help with the questions you've posted especially the inane one above. Shows zero evidence of any studying/searching/investigating the site.

Perhaps a something other than 8 is more appropriate.

find a local shop in your area and get a hold of club members in your area. Post in your state thread.

Best way to get the scoop!

ok I now know about flooding but I have a more specific question, is the engine less likely to flood depending on oil you use? basically does a heavier oil make it less likely to flood?

Milla this is a true drivers car... Meaning you need to keep up with everything inside and out.
I would suggest searching and reading some more and then gathering specific questions not general questions. The guys here will light you up like a Xmas tree if you ask these types of questions. they've been posted and talked about over and over.

Knowledge is power

This thread is very close to a FAIL

BTW- you stating that your lazy is only going to get you Flamed.

In my opinion, the answer to your specific questions are "No" and "No".......but take that for what's it's worth.
