New Owner/ Old Owner
I am so relieved to be back in this car!
Had a 2004 RX-8
Have a 2011 RX-8 GT Sparkling Black
In between:
S2000
350Z
Z4 M Coupe
2011 Mustang (5.0)
Mini Cooper JCW
It took me all that time to realize the best of all worlds was the same car that had been sitting in my driveway in 2004.
No, it's not as fast as the Z4m or 5.0, and no, it doesn't get 38mpg on the highway like the JCW, but the sensation through the controls, the balance in the curves is better than every one of those other cars. Really a special driving experience and unlike anything else.
Just glad to have gotten one before they halted production.
Now, if I can just get them to fix the damn MIAC sound...

When you say "In between", do you mean you spent tens of thousands of your own dollars on those cars in the last seven or less years? How much driving do you do? When do you hear the MIAC sound?

Since you had one of the first and now one of the last, what are your impressions regarding differences? What do you like better in your new one? Anything you like worse?

I HATE SPEEDBUMPS!
Glad your back on the 8. You got all those cars in between around 7 years? So, if you do the math, it's like around 1.25 years on each car. Do you just own them 1.25 years and trade them for another one, hmmmm...

Kiker-
Well, the good news is that time does not move as fast I thought (05 vs 04) - the bad news, is that my memory is fading...
Yes, I did go through a tremendous number of cars. I was incredibly lucky and purchased most of them used with low mileage and was able to sell them pretty close to what I purchased them for (actually slightly made money on the Z4m, believe it or not).
I still dumped far too much money trying to find a car that would "do it all." It also helps moving from a housing market that is near the top (L.A.) to a housing market that is as reasonable as any (Alabama) to develop a car money piggy bank...
New Yorker-
I am actually surprised at the difference to the 05 (or, again, have lost my memory which as you can see is entirely possible). The power feels the same, but the steering seems to feel more immediate. The driving position also feels improved, but that may just be that I prefer the newer seats(?).
Old Rotor-
I hear the MIAC only under full throttle around 6500-7500 RPM's. I don't remember having that sound in 05...

Are you using prem fuel? Do you have the history for your car? Do you think it's an engine noise(preignition) or the other sound of water in a hose that some complain of?
