TX New Owner with many questions!!! pls help me!!

i just got my beautiful rx8 a week ago! its my 3rd vehicle, being 20. and my first two were trucks, so this is a BIG change. im not used to driving cars at all. so first question is when driving daily and trying to save gas, what rpm do you usually shift at to save the most gas? in my frinds eclipse, i usally do at 2.5 or 3, but this rx8 goes to 9rpm so i dont know if i should shift higher.

next question, the dealer i got it from says it has a greddy catback exhaust system, of course i cant get under the car cause it has a veilside bodykit, but i would just guess that it would sound alot louder if it was a greddy, and under the hood theres a aftermarket chrome cover over the air intake that has a "greddy exhaust" and "espilir" emblem on it, so i dont know if he just put dumb emblems under the hood or what. how can i tell if its the stock exhaust?

and my last question is, what upgrades can i do to give it more power? and i want the best. such as air intake, exhaust (if mine really are stock) headers maybe? i mean i would love a turbo but cant afford that now, so would like to know what the best stuff to do to it is for under...say...2grand? and including the best brands also

p.s. which brand is the best turbo incase i win a scratch off or something, aha

I would do 3000-4000 for normal driving sometimes 5000

maybe yea maybe no. just make sure you hit 8000rpm at least once a week to blow the carbon out.

if you got the 8 for straight line performance, you might be a little disappointed....since you're talking about adding power mods, etc....for shifting, at least in the 6spd, i shift around the 3500-4000 rpm range unless i'm getting onto the freeway...then it's close to redline for sure, haha

Yeah normal shifting is around 3500-4k for me especially in the lower gears ...if the car is super quiet then you have the stock exhaust...theres 2 kinds of greddy exhausts for the rx8 the spectrum elite (se) and the greddy sp2...the elite has blue heated tips and the sp2 does not...but if you took pictures of the exhaust we could tell you..and also under the hood we help you out there too

And I have no clue what brand "espilir" is so i duno what to think of that...best mods is intake (aem, mazdaspeed, k&N), exhaust if you dont have any already...midpipe...cobb accessport, rx8's are big into handling soo springs, shocks, swaybars, endlinks, strutbars are very popular

Greddy is the most popular turbo brand In my opinon...theres also esmeril racing...and some pettit supergargers out there...hope this helped

I would hit 9K once a day
Doing it once a week isn't going to do much in terms of carbon removal.

I remember seeing a chart a while back on this board someone did a little mpg logging on their own, and the surprising result was shifting around 4,500 rpm actually resulted in slightly better mpg results than around 3,000 ~ 3,500.

I hope I'm remembering this right.

Wouldn't surprise me. People usually say shift below 3750 (I think that's the rpm) so the secondary ports don't open. But if you do that you're driving in a mode that's designed for idle. Let the secondaries open and you're in the real power range.

Kind of like in the days of the Mobil economy run, where they found that accelerating away from traffic lights at 3/4 throttle was better than easing away just cracked above idle.

9 grand a day keeps the soot away. Sorry, but if you're that worried about gas mileage, you bought the wrong car.
