New owner gushing !! (gear noise ok?)

Finally bought an 8.
An early 04 GT, 23k mi, loaded incl Nav.

I already expect I'm going to LOVE this car. Very excited to get out on the real twisties of NorCal.

I actually love the peaky nature of the rotary! The torque is not near as bad poking around at 3-4000 rpm as I expected, just fine. And to keep the pot really boiling, you have the extra challenge and fun of shifting lots with the slick little stick. Sweet. Only thing bothering me is so much gear noise just spinning in neutral .. I hope that is normal, but I still have warranty.

I've already jacked it up to check out the suspension. Wow! Boy my Mk4 GTI sure looks like a truck in comparison. And you've got cammed adjusters!! Alignment tweaks are so easy!! Cool. I've already started playing, using my toe boards from rally days. I had my GTI set-up well and it could make time, but this is sports car. The instant directness of the steering!! The F/R balance!! RWD!!

We just had a newborn boy and I've been telling people we bought a minivan...the 8!! Last night I mounted the baby seat in the back on top of the center console as the previous owner did. So cool in such a sexy car. We'll try it today.

This is the only car cool enough my wife said she'd learn stick to drive it.

Please tell me that all the gear noise sitting in neutral is normal.

Cool Not normal.....

The gear noise is perfectly normal, but the baby seat ON TOP of the console will get you a ticket for sure - not safe, not even a good idea.

The Latch anchors and top tether points are excellent in this car, don't try and second guess the engineers.

Congrats on the car!
Congrats on the baby.
I have to agree on the baby seat. Protect your child. If you don't know how to attach the seat then get the dealer to help.
Have fun with the mods; you'll find a lot of info here...

Is there any way of getting rid of the noise that is heard in neutral?
It seems to be getting progressively worse
