New Owner Fun
So im getting a 2008 sport rx8 soon.. (or 07 touring).
I have been planning for 1 year already, and ive always wanted to just fill up the tank and just drive until i run out. I would just like to know if this would put too much strain on this car.
( I am not actually going to let the gas run out, but you guys know what I mean)
All of this would be well after i had made all tests and changes/ tune ups.

yeah ive been reading almost everything i could about being a new owner here.
i dont even have one yet, but just so much as learning about it is intoxicating.
ill prob just fill up with more gas when it hits about 1/4 tank.
this is just something I've been wanting to do with a car that ill love and i think the rx8 will be it.
Thanks though
also, that is a very nice 8 in your sig

BS, urban myth that's been repeated for as long as i can remember.
yes the fuel is much more diluted on an empty tank but all that junk is going through the filter no matter what you do. it is just going through at a faster rate when lower on fuel.
upside is your tank is plastic, i deal with rotten metal tanks ALL the time and flushing them via running fuel through them. it's a pain in the *** process but filters get clogged when the tank is full or empty, regardless. i've also run many cars until they ran out of fuel while breaking them in, did the filters clog on any of them? no.
alnielsen gave the best point as why not to run out of fuel, the pump is cooled by the fuel in the tank and when run low it can overheat and be shocked when you fill up the tank while it is still hot. another reason why not to is the lines empty out and when you fill it the air is still in the system and may cause a flooding condition if you aren't careful.

My average was not much better than about 18 or so...But I was going about 80-85 the whole way...Some twisty roads in AR...The speed limit was 50+ there...Was going a bit over that too...Heavy foot brought it to 17 or so.
