Changing subject...
Hello folks!
Just got my RX-8 and this is my first port. First of all thanks a lot for all the people involved in the existence of this forum, this is great! I learned a lot this last week reading all this material, you're really great. Thanks for putting so much energy on it! I guess this is the passion for rotary engines ehehehe
OK, for my question. Sorry if it's a newbie question, but I'll shoot it anyway (didn't find any info about this): when changing the oil of the car, the staff there suggested two oils, one called ROYAL PURPLE and another one called REDLINE. They are 20 and 55 dollars more expensive than an ordinary oil for an oil change. Supposedly made for performance cars (LIKE OURS, YEAH!). The guy was talking about Mustangs and GT-Rs, no mention of RX-8s so far there. Does anybody here have experience with this oil? I'd like to try it next spring, when my monster will be coming from hibernation. In the meantime I'd do my research on their website but I'd like your opinion.

A) this is completely off topic for the thread
B) Oil discussion are roughly equivalent in energy and conflict as a religious war.
C) What you you use has very little to do with the life of the engine. The level of oil and how long you go between changes matters far far far far far more. Use the cheap stuff and change it regularly before it breaks down and you are no worse off than using really high dollar stuff and letting it go a bit longer.

Even though I was not having any issues with my car I decided to take it to the dealership this past Saturday to get a compression test before the warranty expires and to my surprise it failed the compression test.
I left the car at the dealership over the weekend and I just received a call that the new engine is on its way. So yes, now at approximately 45,000 my first engine is done. Definitely glad I took the time to get that test done.
The bad news is that I won't be able to drive her for a couple of weeks.
