Greetings everyone. Just thought I would give a quick shout out to my fellow RX8 enthusiasts. I picked my RX8 up tonight at a local dealership and am loving it thus far. Bit about myself:
I'm 31, married, and I have 2 kids (3 yrs old and 1 yr old). The lease ran out on our 2004 Nissan Maxima, and the wife is taking our SUV (Nissan Armada) and I'm taking the car since I travel more. I told her if I was taking the car I wanted something a bit more fun to look at and drive (although I did love the Maxima). Found a charcoal gray 2004 RX8 GT, with about all the extras (18" rims, body package, etc) with only 31k miles. Although it's quite a bit smaller than the Max, it has enough room for 2 car seats in the back. We pretty much use our SUV anytime we take the family on long distance rides, so most of the time it's short distance rides in our car (heck, you put 2 car seats in the back of ANY car and you have nothing left).
So here I am...at the forums. I sifted through the information here over the past week making sure this was a car I wanted to drive, and finally made the decision today. Sounds like they require a bit more care than most cars, but worth the effort it seems.
About the only thing I was questioning was my check engine light briefly came on (maybe..5-10 seconds) as I was accelerating on the highway this evening. Seemed like the car kind of got stuck between gears (like it wanted to shift, but didn't) while the light was on. It went away and the car acted perfectly fine...so I'm hoping it was just a fluke. If anyone has any comments, would love to hear them.
Otherwise, I'm thrilled to own one of these. I've always thought they were the best looking car on the road.

First Welcome!! I too just joined the RX-8 club a couple weeks ago. I believe the '04 tend to be the most problematic, so pay attention to everything and look it up on the forums for help.
BTW I just had my engine mounts changed, and d/s tail light but this car is so much fun and exciting, its worth it. I too came from a Nissan, a Altima SE-R and I will never go back to Nissan (except maybe for the GT-R)

Welcome to the club. I hope you find the information you are looking for. Eventually you will find friends here too. It will be appreciated by the community if you try to use the search function.
The check engine light (shortened to CEL here) was probably a intermittent misfire and it shouldn't be a problem. If it is convenient, take it back to the dealer for confirmation. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry.

First off, welcome to the forum! The RX8 is unlike any other on the road in more ways than one, and is a true drivers car. I still smile every time I get into mine.
Second, ignore anyone who tells you that the 2004 "is more problematic" than any other model year. As long as all the recalls have been done, the 04 model is as reliable and enjoyable as any other model. I have an 04 with almost 70k, and it still runs the same way it did the first day I got it. Tons of other members w/ 04's that will say the same thing.

Welcome. Lots of good info to find here. Unless the check engine light remains on or the combo of the engine light and shift hesitation persists, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks again for the warm welcome everyone.
First impressions after having the car a couple days:
Think I'm in love....
The only other car I've owned that comes close to comparison was a 1992 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo. Car was crazy powerful, but the handling was no where NEAR my RX8. After reading a lot on the forums I wasn't expecting the car to be a rocket....so I wasn't disappointed when I'd punch it. But I'm noticing that doesn't matter at all to me. This car is 10x more fun to drive than any other car. It's all about the ride, the style, and the crazy handling this thing exhibits.
I'm probably different than most here in that my back seats are filled with car seats It's really not that big of a deal either. I'm a pretty big guy and the boys in their seats seem to have plenty of room in the back of the car....and honestly the only time we are in the car is on the way to the babysitters....any other time we (as a family) are in the SUV with loads of room. My RX8 is more of my travelling car...something to keep me awake when I"m on the road.
So thus far very happy. Have a few small things the dealer is taking care of in the coming weekend though. One of my rear tail lights has a lot of condensation in it, and my back rear tire is missing the cover for the valve. No biggy.
