Cool A new low

I got a new low the other day. 10.8mpg. On about a half a tank with mostly closed course driving. Also some idling time in there. It really sucks down the gas at 8000 rpm. If you keep it in the power zone 6000-8000rpm all the time it is a lot of fun to drive, but you can see the gas gauge moving!
I have the newest PCM flash by the way.

Got 22 MPG yesterday with mostly highway driving AND medium-grade gasoline. It maybe my imagination, but after 2 tankfuls of medium grade gas I seem to be getting just a tad bit better milage. I think I also noticed a very slight drop in performance...but that does not bother me since all I am doing is back and forth to work.

There is a button. It is covered in the owners manual.

its not your imagination..... a lower grade fuel will last you longer but less power, a higher grade will burn faster but more power.

when you guys say 21 mpg...

how many KMs is that in one tank?

21mpg = 11.2 liters/100km

Formula used:

100 / 21 * 3.7853 / 1.60934

( 1 US Gallon = 3.7853 liters
1 US mile = 1.60934 km )

For 15.3 the numbers are identical..

15.3 mpg = 15.3 liters/100 km.

So you guys are getting more than 500km with one tank?

The longest distance I travelled with one full tank was about 420km

The max I got was 314 miles, read light coming on at 286.

314 miles = 505 km, indeed.

Normally the red light comes on at 240 miles, I fill up at 250m, that's only 400 km.

The one time I reached 314 m, I dunno, I topped off both times at the gas station, so it's definitely an accurate measurement..

Last tank with "normal" city driving = 13.26 mpg.

Since keeping a fuel mileage log, I've driven almost 2,500 miles and have an average MPG of 14.53.

Right answer, wrong reasoning. After reading several threads on octane, I feel almost like I undrstand it...

What is happening is the opposite of what you wrote. Premium unleaded gasoline is LESS volitile than Regular 89 octane gas. Since it is harder to burn, it less completely burns thus creating less power. This is why it's good for FI applications... Fi= more pressure = more heat = detonation = bad. THUS... lower grade gasoline will burn more easily and more completely creating more power.

Holy Moses! 505km with one tank, it's so great just to hear it!
My 8 is still new (only 2500miles). I hope this is the reason why I can't reach that number yet!
I got 420km when I was driving on a highway with average speed about 85mph. What was your driving style ptiemann, when you got 314miles?
