New headers, Stock exhaust...Good idea or not?

Whats up guys,

Im not the biggest automobile expert over here so maybe you can help me...

Im looking into buying new headers for my son for his rx8 but he still has a stock exhaust. Would that hurt the car at all? Also by puting new headers on whats the pros of doing so...Does it make the car have more horse? or make it louder or something? I just dont want to waste my money.. I dont know why he wants these headers so bad for

Headers will improve the sound but no add much power, bolt on's do not provide major gains in this car. Paying for some track time for your son would be nice, just a suggestion.

So basically by putting new headers on a stock rx8 it will just make the car louder. Buy having aftermarket headers and a stock exhaust, it wont hurt the car?

No, the stock exhaust is not a bad system power wise. Its heavy and doesn't look great but will not 'choke' any headers you install. If you do go with a header your going to have to unbolt the CAT. Might as well look into a Midpipe / high flow cat.

expo1 is right, commercial headers that bolt to the stock midpipe location won't do much and the stock ones are absolutely not restrictive. It's because of our exhaust ports' design.
Getting a high flow catalyzer welded to a good midpipe would be a better choice power wise.
Anyway as expo1 said with that money you could really make your son a better driver by buying him some kind of driving course.
