Cool New Guy from SoCal

Hey everyone, I have been an RX-8 owner for about a week now. Purchased a slightly used (read: 10,500 mi) black RX-8. It's a manual of course, has the red and black leather interior and navigation. I switched from a 2001 ford mustang GT which I really loved but because of reliability issues I had to trade it in. I have been having a blast in this car, its really great being in a car that can actually take turns without having to slam on the breaks. I think it looks awesome and is a great ride. My only two gripes would be the lack of torque and gas mileage. I have always been a bit hard on my cars and I love to drive them near redline before shifting. Keeping that in mind, my first tank of gas only lasted me 160 miles. I have read some of the suggestions and I am now shifting at 3-4k (no fun at all) but I think I might actually squeeze 200-220 miles out of this tank. I bought this car after reading an article in car and driver about the new stand alone fuel management system by HKS which allowed one shop to almost hit 400hp. (My best friend owns an rx-7 single turbo pushing 405 to the wheels so Ive got a bit of competition) Im definitely up saving to do that although it doesent look like the kit has been released yet. Other than that I'm just looking to do some minor reliability mods before bringing on the boost. Looks like you guys have a great site here and I cant wait to begin contributing.

BTW, my car made such an impression that it convinced my girlfriend to go out and buy a red one (automatic), so im really trying to make mine stand out a bit.

Welcome! If you search, you will find many threads related to performance mods and how they work, all the way from CAI to exaust systems. Your fuel mileage sounds unusually low!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, I have been taking full advantage of the search button on your site for the last month or so. I have only gone about 3 full tanks, so im hoping its just a learning curve with the car on my part.

just to inform you. that "stand alone fuel management" that hit almost 400 hp is actually a turbo using the HKS f-con. the pro-tech performance turbocharger to be exact. quite expensive, but if you got the money, it'd be a majorly sick performance mod.

heh, yeah i reread my post and realized i mentioned nothing of it being partnered with a turbo. but thanks for the name, ive been looking for it all over the place. still waiting to see what pro-techs customers will think after its been on the market for a bit, one more month to go.....
