new flash?

Took my car into service yesterday 8/26/04 for my squeeking brakes at 4000 miles xP and i called in today and asked them if they had finished fixing the brakes and they said that they found no problems in the brakes and my car will be ready in an hour or two after they flash the engine to give it more horsepower and better cold starts... but the thing is that i already got the M flash 2 months ago... a new flash or they giving me the M flash again???

im confused

THEY ARE DOING THE WORK REQUIRED BY MSP04. when they did your flash previously it was not done under this mazda special program. every car that falls under the vin or build date spectrum, when taken in for service, shows that msp04 must be completed. the instructions of this program state they must first verify what pcm calibration level you are on and then either a. if you are up to date place a sticker showing that this is so and then "close" this issue with the mazda service system or b. after finding you are not up to date then flash the car to the M flash, then place the sticker showing the work has been doen and then close the issue with the mazda service system.

if they follow these steps the wont actually do the flash since you are on M. they will just confirm with mazda that it has been done "at some point".

oh and dont get uptight if you dont find the sticker most service departments are out of them and cannot re-order them. as long as your paper shows msp04 complete you are ok.

great tech support

Zoom 44- I have noticed your response to questions has been very accurate. You have very good insight to the Mazda product. Are you connected with a Mazda/Ford dealer, or just well read on the RX8s?

I had my 8 serviced at Trussville mazda last week and had a lengthy conversation with several of the mechanics.....they said that mazda was on the verge of releasing an updated flash which will replace the M flash

How do you know if your car needs this flash? My car has a build date of Mar/04 and I just picked it up.

well that answer depends on who YOU work for not a spy are you?

hehehe well no i dont work for Mazda or Ford or any auto company actually. (Although i wouldnt mind working for MAZDA! you guys listening?)I am just an obssessed RX-8 enthusiast and owner who has been following the car since about 2 years before the launch. In that time i have tried to learn as much as i can about how it all works. im a voracious reader with really good retention(not just my opinion my wife says so too) which helps alot. I read everything i can find about the 8 and check to make sure it's true. I also have a bit of sherlock holmes in me- i find it fun to track down little bits of info and clues to more.I have been fortunate along the way to meet/correspond with many people who were/are willing to share their knowledge with me and teach me the things i didnt even know i needed to learn and to let me know where i was wrong. Some even found me trustworthy enough to share "insider" knowledge that i otherwise wouldnt have anyway of knowing. For that i feel extremely honored. So i try to make sure when i post a response that i get it right and if im not sure to post that im not and then track down the correct answer.

ok that was rather long winded. but you get the idea

go to the tech section and find the sticky thread with the link to the TSB's. read the one titled MSP04. It says any car built after March 12th(i think) came with the flash. in reality any car built in march will have it from the factory. if somehow yours slipped thru without it at your next service appointment it will be done. the Mazda service system will tell them it needs to be done when they put in your vin- just like it would for recalls.

Trussville is a good shop, and they know that we are all listening to comments like that one. I'm sure they do not want to ruin their respect here by making idle claims of a new flash, so why not e-mail them, and ask that they put what they said down in writing, then copy it here for the forum to see...

I for one do not believe Mazda is on the verge of anything currently

Why don't you just call.........1-800-847-7262 ...........trying to remember their names.......one was Danny........the other two had pony tails!! Why don;t you just ask for the head mechanic.......they had just returned from a mazda tech course.......did not say when the flash was coming out......just that it would be soon...mazda has already released several flashes.......why don't you think they would release another???

Hell Yeah.....post #69!!!!

Are you sure they wern't referring to the MSP04 letter that will be going out shortly.

Seems they have been on the verge of mailing the letters out to un-knowing owners two or three times now.

The letter will not add a new flash..as of 12 noon EST the "M" is still the mack daddy and even the 05's are coming in with the "M".

And Zoom is very well tutored.
