If there is a problem, it's free. If the test shows that it has a lot of compression, I think you have to pay between 100-200 dollars.

Lol thought I might drop by this post... Im currently on my 4th engine... Original one crapped out from the previous owner not knowing how to drive it so it had shitload of carbon... the other 2 were poorly built and leaked oil. Im currently on my 4th engine and its running smooth, looks like those remanufactured boys in Virginia actually know how to fix a Rotary eh... we should give em' a clap or two...

2005, still on original engine.

20,000 of them are with supercharger. (Yes, my odometer read 17778 when I picked it up from Pettit's shop).

Good engine.

If you are suffering from NA RX-8 disease, ask your local mechanic if Pettit Racing's supercharger is right for you. Side effects include facial pain from smiling so hard, and increased heart rate. Passenger side effects include occasional dizziness, headache, nausea, and/or potential moments of incontinence. No users have ever stopped boosting because of these side effects.

Contact your local mechanic to find out if Pettit Racing's supercharger is right for you.

does anyone know if there is a vin plate on the engine itself or anyway of checking to see if the engine has been replaced?

Mazda wont release the info to me because I am not the original owner...

Any thoughts?

Your front rotor housing has the engine serial number on it. The reman engine from Mazda should have an ID plate on the front cover. I think that will be blue.

Paul.

2004, 69178 is the mileage at which the engine was replaced.
It now has 75076 and is running great.

Thank you so much I've been looking for this info for 10 months. Hopefully I have a reman.

Quick question which side of the housing should I be looking at I'm assuming the drivers side with the 13b printed on it.

Yes that is correct. otherwise they would be giving out free engines for an eternity.

So is there any pinpoint of certain things that people do or don't do that require engine replacement? Or is it just luck of the draw? What causes these engine replacements?

here's what Ive worked out

if you drive it to hard you can blow a seal
if you dont drive it hard enough you can blow a seal
if you dont premix you can blow a seal
if you do premix and to much carbon builds up you can blow a seal.
if you dont do regular maintenance it can blow a seal
if you let the oil go over 3k you can blow a seal
if you de carb to frequently you can blow a seal
if you decarb infrequently you can blow a seal

Jesus doesn't hear your prayers, except for me 111k and still going strong.

well I guess that is the deciding factor on whether to trade the car in for a new one or not. I was planning on looking for something new in July... but I may do it sooner.

I'm at 80k... and from what I gather, a lot of people with engine replacements have it replaced a second or third time in the future. I know that if something happens to this one I wont be able to afford $4k in repairs. Sucks cause I was finally going to finish paying it off and have no car payment, but I guess I gotta start over on a new one.

335i Turbo convertible has my eye right now!

Atleast 100k, but if you pre-mix, 4oz per tank, change your oil, and redline regularly you should get a long life out of it.
