New engine getting installed today, anything I should know?

I bought my 04 RX8 used with 20k miles 2 1/2 years ago, so I haven't had the experience of a new engine on a RX8. Anything I should know?

Search the forums... Now with a new engine, it's like having a new car... you should go through the proper break in procedures....

Have them check your ignition coils, wires, and plugs. I would recommend changing the coils. Also have them visually inspect your cat. converter inside to make sure it's not melted.

haha yea... hope the tech that did the work tightened all the bolts and oiled her up.... then started it and added more oil once it got sucked up into the oil coolers and what not.

it should be fine if its done at the dealership though.. they do mechanics by numbers pretty much. (Following step by step instructions on everything).

Is the engine completely new? Or is it "remanufactured"?

make sure you rev the **** out of that new engine and drive it hard. HARD. harder than you normally throw the engine about. this will create better seals and better compression.

get the oil changed at 500 miles, 1000 miles, and 3000 miles. after that, just drive it normally.

go to cool springs mazda and talk to jerry. I went through RiverGate and Hickory Hollow Mazda where they treated me like **** and tried to void the warranty of my engine because of a CAI and exhaust that were after market. I went to Cool Springs and they treated me like a god.

Go see Jerry now! He has done over 100 engine replacements on RX8 at this place and installs an engine and has it ready to go in 6 hours.

Since its an 04 you might also want to change the belts & hoses, they have to take them off anyway. If you have not added one yet, now is the time to put in a screen to protect the A/C condenser from rocks, 04's didn't have them. The last thing I would check are the engine mounts, I had the newer ones put in when I had a motor put in.

Unless its in writing NEVER believe what a dealer tells you. The attached section of the owners manual still applies to a re-man

Just keep this in mind, a Reman engine is basically an "used engine" that has been returned for "enter reason(s) here"

it doesnt hurt to drive it easy for a few hundred miles, gas cost a lot anywayz

Over 100 engine replacements at one dealer?

Ask him if it is mainly 04's like we see here.

I would at least follow the 600 mile stock break-in, better be on the safe side. It may be ok if you drive it hard right away, but why chance it?

I just got a new engine in and I'm going to break it in the same as when I got the car new.
