New engine coming

Well I just talked to my dealer. They installed a reman and found the catalytic converter was broken too - probably because my engine came apart inside. So they are waiting for a cat plus another reman engine - apparently the one they installed was not so great. I am hoping the 3rd one is a charm!

It still amazes me that after all the rotary engines Mazda has replaced they still can't get the re-manufactured ones right. Good luck with the next one.

Got my car back today with its new used engine, seems to drive normally (based on 10 miles). No difference except the little burble/skip in the exhaust at idle is gone.
Turnaround time was 15 days from diagnosis to replacement complete, which included about 6-7 days of the engine in transit.
Asked if there was a break-in procedure, they said "not really".
They also did the gas cap switch from the TSB.
Will let you know how it goes -
