New Engine Again

I had a 2004 RX8 (bought new) - got a new engine at 20K miles. Traded the car in back in March for a 2007 RX8. Reports and reviews were good, no recalls, etc - so I took the chance on a second RX8.

Well, no such luck - check engine light came on, coolant in the engine. So now I get a new engine on a car with just over 5K miles.

Haven't decided what I am going to do yet. I'd like my money back but I don't think that will ever happen.

Man, good thing you took that 250 shot of nitrous off before taking it into the dealership again.

No insult intended but two engines going bad for the same driver seems very unlikely. Can you provide detailed information about your driving style and driving conditions please?

You get a new engine covered under warranty so I don't see the problem?

You won't get your money back over something like this, anyways. You'd have to have the same issue multiple times before you could even begin to pursue getting your car bought back.

Are you checking the oil level? Perhaps you are very unlucky and bought two lemons in the row!

An 07 getting a new engine

I'm curious also about your driving style or mods, if any. Btw, how many miles did you have on the 04 reman engine before trading it in?

This pretty much sucks. Haven't decided what I am going to do yet. I'd like my money back but I don't think that will ever happen.
I live in North Dakota. I check the oil every other time I fill with gas. I also take the car out once a week on the highway to get the rpms up. So, it's basically two lemons in a row. I don't remember how many miles were on the car when I traded the 2004 RX8.

It's really not a lemon unless you had to take it in several times. So you tell the story, but if it was just you coming into the dealer one day, and they find the engine is blown and replace it for you, that doesn't sound too bad.

Dammit, why can't I get a new engine?? I've tried everything—stop 'n' go traffic, 90º summer temps, no pre-mix, no synthetic oil—but no matter I do, at over 13K miles my 8 runs as beautifully as the day I bought it. Damn, I'm getting awfully tired of never ever having anything dramatic and frightening to announce!

Ideally I like to get my engine replaced right before the warranty expires. That would be super! Any tips?

Sorry to say but, either you have super super super duper bad luck, or you might be the cause

i'd say he probably starts the car then peggs the gas in neutral for a few minutes before driving away not shifting out of first gear for his hour long commute on the freeway

Actually, it depends on the state's warranty laws - in some states it would qualify for being such a major problem. The process varies state by state.

Sounds even more suss to me "sneakers"

You have made only 4 posts in 3 years of club membership..

2 posts close together in 2005, about engine flooding and then a new engine.

2 posts 2 years later saying you need a new engine in your new 2007 RX-8.

I just find this a little strange, absolutely nothing else to say or post about your RX-8 over the last 3 years anywhere in this forum?

Here boys is the correct answer. Both above & in extended format below

90% of the time, the "coolant" failure engine death is from owners whom give the car a thrashing straight from cold start in the morning.

Aluminium rotor housings combined with cast iron side plates dont have the same thermal characteristics thus they heat up at different speeds. The aluminium over expands as the Cast iron side plates are slow in catching up but when they do, the Aluminium rotor housings get crushed.

The crushed rotor housings then allow water coolant to seep into the engine next time everything cools down. Gets worse every time the owner thrashes it cold & eventually too much coolant causes hydrualic lock or keeps everything too wet to pump out & spark up into life.

LOL Great post New Yorker. Other than one condensation tailight, replaced under warranty, I've had no problems either.

I was thinking about this response for a while and then it hit me. I go on the highway to get my RPMs down and save some gas. I believe in the 'drive it like you stole it' philosophy.
We really need to put together some data from our members to try to figure out which behaviors lead to failure of stock engines. Can someone out there design a survey to collect the information?
