1. Would you recommend this car to me?
2. What is a good price to pay for an 8 with bout 50k on it?
3. What type of oil should I use?( have read a lot on this and know that everyone has their own opinions)
4. What are the do's and donts with this car?( I know you should redline it once a day to clean out carbon)
5. Overall would you recommend?
6. What are things I should check for when test driving and buying?( plan on bringing my mechanic with me, but generally what should I look for)

Thanks in advance for all your help.
1. Not really. Almost every 16yo driver crashes there first car. My first car was a Ford Taurus Wagon and looking back it was perfect. I drove into a snowdrift and ruined my front bumper and backed into something and ruined the back. When I got my dream car (mitu 3000GT) i was a lot more careful and it is still running strong today.

2. What year? Could be anywhere from 10-17k

3. Mazda recommends 5w-20 non synthetic. It is up to you though many people run different blends.

4. Besides adding oil and not shutting it off cold nothing different from any other car.

5. I would recommend it if you want a good all around sports car that can fit four people comfortably. It is also a very unique car (only rotary being made), and you can get a good one used pretty cheap.

6. Get a compression check and make sure you have the service history if you want the engine replacement warranty honored if it happens to go bad. Other then that same as any other car.

Also a question......... why are you so concerned about reliability if money is no problem? If you cannot afford to fix problems with a car you should't be buying a used one with over 50k miles.

Ah, the Saab 96… my first car! But I had the V4.

I was also looking at purchasing an RX-8 and I haven't really figured out, what is the best year for this car?

By best I mean in terms of customization, mainly to the engine in terms of Turbo Kits and the like.

Thanks

04- 08 are all the same

09+ have less support .... but that all depends on what you are looking to do/ how much money you want to spend .... Series 2 engines are better IMO

ex: COBB is available only for series 1

I just don't want it to be in the shop every month. U know? That leaves you without a car, plus who wants to just throw money away? As I said before I don't want to buy a brand new car as my first when there is a possibility that I might crash it.

If it didn't have the three cylinder two stroke engine, with the freewheel, it wasn't a real SAAB.

I think Andrew should look for one of those.

Yeah I noticed the Cobb wasnt compatible. Seems like there isn't a lot of R&D into the SII.

Do you think there will be?

What makes the series new engines any better? I knew the spacing was different because of the Turbo Kit incompatibilities, but Didn't really find out what had changed.

LOL. But it did have freewheel, plus the "airplane" mudflaps and 4-on-the-column. The largest thing under the hood was the heater.

Well, there were a lot fewer Series 2 sold than Series 1, and seeing as they JUST have been discontinued here and the fact that OBD2 ECU's are different country to country, No, I don't think something like COBB will ever be available for S2's. I could be wrong tho.

I think we currently see the apex of aftermarket support for the S2, but things may change.

As far as the engine itself, the apex lubrication and MOP is completely changed for one... there are a couple other small but important changes.

Mazda produced the RX-7 from 1978 to 2002 and, compared to the RX-8, it did very well.
wtf are they smoking the rx8 did infinitely better than the 7 in terms of sales ...
