New brake pads at 10k miles?!?!
I have approximately 10,667 miles on my car.. bought it back at February 17, 2004 and I already have to change the brake pads? It seems a little too soon to me but everytime I brake I feel a little grinding on my 2 front wheels. I called Mazda and they said that it is most likely the brake pads and that the 2 front ones wear out faster than the back ones. The price for 2 brake pads is $125 for a set of 2 installation not included.. Anyone else had to replace there brake pads too?

Normally a set of up front pads will go 24 to 30 K. 10 k is a bit too early. Something is not going on right with the calipers perhaps. Not sure. Look at your rotors. Do they have deep deep grooves on them and signs of burning like blue spots on them. Have your dealer check them out or have a brake place check them. Someone you and trust.

Mazda will replace any RX-8's pads if you tell them that the brakes squeel. The new pads will also take care of the brake dust problem at the same time. We should have never payed for pads with only 10,000 miles. Go and get your money back!!

You are probably suffering the TSB squeeling issue w/ the standard brake pads. As stated earlier....take it to your dealer and complain of squeeling, they will then replace under warranty with new pads. The bonus...less brake dust!!!

I guess this is all about priorities...

Brake pads?
That's nothing, there's a guy on this forum that had warped rotors after the same mileage as you.
Needless to say, Mazda replaced them under warranty due to a fault with them.

Like in Autoexe...
I think our rotor will go much faster than the brake pad ever will :o

do you have an AUTO??? Those with the Auto will run their breaks down I'm just guessing here, about 10 times as fast as the Manual owners...no I'm not bashing you
but seriously the only time I ever use the breaks is the final 5-20ft of a stop...whenever I need to slow down I only downshift
there is one exception to this, DSC TCS...will break for you when you are loosing traction to certain wheels...this is a factor that is hard to quantify but will similarily affect the AUTO and MANUAL owners...maybe alittle more with the Manual owners since it runs a much higher RPM bandwidth
