New 08 or Mod an 04/05?

If you had a set budget...and you could either:

1) buy or lease a new 2008 RX8 GT

OR

2) buy a used 04/05 that had under 40k miles, and then add $4-5k in mods, such as

MS Coilovers, MS Exhaust, MS Sway Bars, MS Strut Bars, MS Flywheel

which would you rather have for your weekend fun car?

personally i'd buy a slightly used '06/'07 touring and do small mods or wait to see what the new facelift looks like.

are you kidding me?

i'd ****** an '05 RX-8 (not an '04...there have been known issues with the this older model) and spend the rest of my piggy bank in getting all those mods you listed.

the appearance and performance features of the rx-8 have not changed for the most part over the years, so spending the extra couple of thousand on the latest model would just be a waste of money that could've been used elsewhere.

like in mods!

that's kind of what i'm thinking.

part of me likes the idea of the car being new....there is more peace of mind..

but true, a really low miles, clean 05 that has the MS mods on it would be one hell of a weekend toy.

my other choice of car has been the S2k, but the thing is so freakin' small and cramped inside. i like the look/feel of the 8 better. with those MS mods, I think the 8 would handle as well or better than an s2k, and pricing on used s2ks seems to be a bit higher than RX8s. and insurance...woo hoo.... i'd spend $50/month MORE to insure a s2k than the 8...

so back to my point... the used 8 with those mods.... ought to be fun.

nope!

it will be fun!

just watch out for those POS corrupt cops that will want to give you a ticket just because you have a nicer car than they will ever own...

I would seriously suggest holding out until the new Camaro comes out, or pick up an '03-'04 Vette for the money.

camaro or used Vette?

you must be kidding right??? I've driven the vette and i hate it. yeah they are fast, but they feel like you're driving a big fat hunk of junk.

I've driven 3 different C5s and never liked one of them. i liked the speed and they do handle well....they just feel crummy.

i guess if you just wanted something to terrorize the roads with, a usd Z06 would be a pretty bad A$$ car... there's just somethign about them i don't like.

the RX8 feelsl ike a better made more fun car.

sometimes fun and speed aren't the same thign.

if you really believe that and even wanted/considered a corvette or camaro, then you have no business being a member here or even visiting this site.

WoW...what a response. I would never have thought to see that in an import forum, but you are brave, I must give you that. And that's why we are all here, for varying opinions.

On to the topic: I was going through the same thought process, But I would get an '05 like I just did and mod it, which I already have started to

Scrapin-

you have a 335 AND an RX8. NICE.

the 335 is one NICE ride and FAST.

since you have a 335 and have now bought an 8 - you think a 335 could hang with an RX8 n a twisty road?

thanks.

The 335i is like a Mustang with a nicer ride and interior, and gadgets. The 8 can definitely hold its own in the twisties, but the 335i will take off in the straights and its high end speed is a lot more than the 8. But I enjoy driving the 8 more because of the its steering; basically point and shoot!

It's easy.

Do like I did and buy a low mlage (under 15,000miles) 2005 with mods already installed.

My car is flawless and I feel that it's WAY better than a new one with no mods.
