Need some advice on an oil leak
I have a 2004 RX8. Great shape. 66k miles. Just noticed an oil leak the other day. Took it to the Mazda place yesterday. They told me they'd need to order the following parts (which may or may not be needed...they won't know until they get in there)...
Metering oil pump assembly: $1641.96
M-oil pump feed lines to engine block: $84.96 x 4 = $339.84
misc gaskets and o-rings required to do the repair: $116.52
parts total: $2098.32
labor total: $1314.02
tax: $195.74
total: $3609.08
Seems pricey for the current worth of the car. I can probably order some of the parts cheaper online (especially the oil pump assembly) and have them install them for cheaper but I'm not quite sure what to do at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Depends what is actually leaking/where the leak is coming from. Its possible all those components could be damaged, however its also likely that its either the o-ring between the front cover/metering oil pump assembly, or one of the pump feed lines is damaged/broken. I cant see the entire metering oil pump needing to get replaced...

Hope you're right. That's the most expensive part.

Forgot to post this video from the dealership if it helps: https://video.37483.net/timeline/gDw6jfD9

Assuming the diagnosis for where the leak is coming from is correct, only replace only the o-ring gasket between the MOP and the engine housing, maybe the MOP oil lines, and the copper gaskets for the oil line connections. You could likely get away without changing the oil lines as long as you don’t break them.
Because they do tend to become brittle over time. So if you first unbolt the oil lines from the MOP ok, then just unbolting the MOP to replace the O-ring gasket and then new copper gaskets for those oil line connections should be all that’s needed. This assumes one or more of those lines aren’t broken/leaking.
If you do it yourself then degreasing the area first and determining where the leaks are coming from would be the first step.

The o ring was literally my problem this past weekend. Except the oil leaked down the wiring harness onto a bare wire and put my car in limp mode. Fixed the o ring and the wire and she's good now.
