My daughter is 19 and loves her Mazda6. So do I. In fact I initially looked at the RX-8 thanks to my positive experience buying her the Mazda6.
btw: I rarely drive my wife's Lexus. Booooring! (but very comfortable on long trips I must say)

The only thing I complain about it is the tires.... Good Years RSA. They are decent on dry but it sucks on Wet. I can't wait to replace them with Toyos Proxes 4 or T1Rs. If you get the Hatch, you got a lot of room and you get the 2.3L engine. The only bad thing about that if you change your own oil, it has a cartdrige type filter....no spin-on type. The 2.0L has the spin-on type but is the base "i" model. Oh by the way, if you get the 6 "i" model it has the same 2.3L engine. Or you can get the 6s with V6 (comes with spin-on oil filter) you can choose either a sedan, wagon or a Hatchback.

For the 2nd part - Shame on you, Fred. If she will be happy with the mini then get her a damn mini. It's her car, not yours. Have you done a test drive in the mini?

Why aren't you asking your wife? if she wants a Mini, get her a Mini. Better yet, tell HER to go buy her OWN Mini.
I can't belive the rest of you- "if she's not an enthsiast, don't get it" "women don't take good care of their cars." BS. Men are just as bad. There are a limited # of people who give a crap about their cars, and while you can say in 99.9% certainty that most car enthusiasts are men, what in the heck does that have to do with how well you take care of your car or whether or not you should buy an 8? It doesn't take THAT much maintenence- throw a quart of oil in if you hit 3k miles before you have a chance to get the oil changed. Big deal.

driving a Mini won't make you look like a doofus. there are tons of men who drive them around here in so cal. have you test driven one? try out an S with MT. it is a great little fun car.

I don't know why you guys are saying there is a ton of engine care involved.
Just check the oil ever couple of tanks and top off if necessary.
Warm-up: I've never really found this to be a problem. I just start the car, wait till the revs drop and drive for about 5 minutes under 4k RPMs to warm up.
The rest of the maintenance is pretty similar to any other car, i.e., changing all fluids, checking and maintaining tire-pressure, washing the car, getting alignment done ever 6k miles, changing tires, etc.
Just check the oil ever couple of tanks and top off if necessary.

When "The Wife" pays for her own car, she can choose it, ok?
Plus, she wants me to like her car too.
Plus I would never buy her a car she dislikes.

Showed her pictures online and she likes it very much.

350z, how much is that full-spec'd 3 coming out to be?
Reason I'm asking is because you can get some pretty sweet deals on '05 8's still in stock. There are a few dealers in my area that still have some new '05s from Sports to GT's and they discount 'em $7-8k.
Or is it just that you don't want your wife to have a better car than you?

2. Seriously. I see so many people on the 8club talking about carbon build up...but honestly, I'm thinking that a great many of them have never seen the internals of a carbon-builtup rotary. High revving maybe once every 400-500 miles would be better advice...its not something you have to "remember", more like something you have to do to merge once in a while. You don't "need" to do this.
3. I disagree, whole heartedly. 5th gear, 3000rpm, step on the gas just a little bit..you will go up 10mph like nothing. There is power EVERYWHERE...it just increases noticeably at 7500rpm when the aux. ports open. There is power below 5000rpm..I hate it when people say there isn't -.-
4. I suppose if you lack brain, you need to "remember" this. I'd call it common sense, but, meh...most people lack that, these days.

if you think she could take care of your 350z then yeah go for an 8, but i trust she's a smart person, it doesn't take a rocket sciencetist to maintain this car, just a little extra care.

Yeah but there's no rush in 5th gear at 3000rpm. If you ton in on the gas you do go faster but you don't get pushed back in your seat.
3rd gear is probably the most powerful gear. 4th less so, and 5th and 6th are just cruising gears.

For the love! How offensive is this? Dont forget to close the rear door before the front? Good grief. Its a car. Not aeronautical engineering. You must truly have a low opinion of women and their abilities. Geez. You've made me wonder how I manage to walk and talk without my list of instructions from you every day.
