Need help reading dip stick for oil lol please

I know I know....... I have had this car for about 3 months and ever 3 fillups i check oil did not need any started riding the car harder since I put exhaust in lol now the oil is low I think I'm just having hard time reading this stupid thing. It has a line then 3 dots then another line then small flat before hitting the round part of dip stick. My question is its below the top line its between the top dot and top line. Can anyone help me on this dont want to over fill my oil

i believe the dots are so you can see about where your oil is easily, my 04's dipstick has only a bottom line and a top line, and its extremely difficult to see without a flashlight to see the reflectiveness.. so the top line is the top line, you should be fine bro

Cool thanks....... So dont go above the line even though there is still little room until it hits the round part of the dip stick

well, my car was recently by the low mark, just a lil above the low mark.. put a whole quart in and it brought it above the top line, about the same distance up from when it was low, so if you overfill a little bit, its ok, it will burn off, your engine wont explode. i think

just DONT overfill it wayyyy too much. what happens when you do that is it gets whipped around and gets marshmellowy, and, yeah, go figure

out of curiousity, how come mazda put in a dipstick with only 2 marks on it like the one in my 8 in the first place? Seems pointless, but still works

Mazda, like all socially responsible organizations, constantly seeks ways to improve their products. The additional marks on the dipstick are an example of that upward striving.

Two Marks! Really? I count 5 marks, and anymore might confuse you.

Hell, I never could read it with 5w20, but I can with a normal weight of 0w40.

Oh excuse me, mea culpa, I know about running changes in Japanese cars, but I didn't know that some cars didn't have those three titty marks!

You are correct (as usual) I have an 04 model and the dipstick has only two marks (one for low one for full).

This is actually getting funny and interesting...............I'll tell you why.

Early on(in early 06), I was poking around on the Finishline site and saw this dipstick(see link below).
Thinking it was "new" and I was ordering other stuff, I threw it in with my order.
Well, as it turns out, it's not like the pic at all and is exactly like ours is now, but maybe the difference was that it had the **** where my old one didn't?
I can't verify my old one as someone needed it and I sent it to them for free. Think it's in Arizona somewhere.

Note the part number has a "D' revision...............this doesn't mean it started at "A", but maybe there was an older version?
