so i got my mazda rx8 in march of 2015 and now it is october i have roughly 80,000 miles on it and the engine is completely toast the dealership told me the combustion inside the car is not up to par what it should be ( it wont start after 10_15 mins of driving i have to wait around 30 mins to attempt to turn the car back on) ITS GOING TO COST 7.5K to get it fixed and that's way out of my ballpark ive had the car for not even 7 months and this happens should i take it back to the dealership on which i bought the car at? and ask whats up or should i just suck it up? i have a loan on it right now and im paying it month by month the car cost me 10k btw so any help is appreciated thanks guys!

 

Unfortunately this is the cost of not fully educating yourself and doing proper checks prior to purchase. We ALWAYS recommend having the compression checked before you buy.
You can find reputable builders outside of Mazda to work on a rebuild. However, it's still going to cost quite a bit, unless you have the knowledge to do the work yourself...

But just to be sure - what is it exactly that the mechanic said to you regarding your engine? Have you done any maintenance on it? Does it have any modifications? What are the symptoms?

 

I hate seeing all these cars bought by people not doing their due diligence and not having the means or know how to fix it. Most likely case is that you're out 5k or you sell it to someone else like you and you tell em the starter is bad (cause how many times have people bought this car thinking that?). Seriously, if you live around the omaha ne area and can source an engine and have a garage, I'll bring my tools to you and we'll swap the engine. I just need a pair of hands and some good beer.

Assuming you got a compression test and that is the problem...

Sorry about your issue.
Unfortunately, hot start problems are usually a symptom of bad compression.
Unless you bought a special extended warranty, you probably can't return it.
If you bought it 'AS IS' there's not much you can do and they don't have to do anything.
Only thing I can think of is maybe you can try to see if they'll trade a car of lesser value for it.
You might consider appealing in a sympathetic manner, and not belligerently, since they legally don't have to do anything.
That would be a long shot, but maybe if they have a good business ethic, (unusual for a dealership) are concerned about you being a satisfied customer who may buy from them in the future, they may consider it.

People usually don't do any do dilligence because most folks don't do much any way before they buy. I know i didn't either but after several years of owner ship i am learning and of course with the experience od members who generiously give their experience to us through these forums. To me the rx8 is a enthusists car. The rx8 any years isn't for every one. The rx8 was marketed totally wrong and ford motor north America company made Mazda sacrifice lubricity for emmissions. Most people don't really due any to little due dilligence and with the rx8 , if you don't then be prepaired to get an education or another car. It'sd a great car to me , but you either love it or you hate it, i love the experience and challenges it brings. Safe to note that with out the experienced members here at this site , the car wouldn't be in my garage. So thank you to all the experienced members who give freely in these forums.

 

Well I will suggest you should consult Warren Court Rotaries, a dedicated Mazda Rx8 Specialist business. They can help you check out the issues properly including Compression Test and they might be able to help you fix your car at some lower costs. For New Year They are offering RX8 Compression Test facility for only £30 instead of £40. So you can get the benefit of saving some amount at compression test at least.

 

Where are you located? If in Central Europe, I might find a working RX-8 around here for you. There are some LHD models in the Netherlands which are being sold for 3000 dollars in quite a good condition. Or import an RX-8 from the UK, some cost just a 1 or 2000 GBP, swap the engine and use the import for spare parts / part sale.

In the end it comes from the same factory in Hiroshima.

7500 dollars to get it fixed... That's imo too much.

 

I'm thinking of purchasing a 2005 shinka from a friend , the car has 35k miles on it ( original motor) . He is selling the car for 6k ( he has outgrown the car and would like something else) , is that a decent price or shall I seek for something else .

First off, I am so sorry to hear about the issues you are currently experiencing.
$10k for an 04 is way overpriced that too with 80k on it.

If you can return the car and pay some fees, that's your best option since you mentioned you financed it. Or trade it for something else if the dealer allows.

If not then, look for a reputed rebuilder in your area and have it rebuilt it will still cost you around 3-6k depending on how badly your internals are.

While you are at it, read all the stickies in the new member forums, they pack a ton of wealth for new owners.
