Angry Need advice. Catalytic Converter Problem...

First post, hope you guys can give me a suggestion or two.

My CEL light came on, took it to the dealership where they said it was a PO420 Cat Converter malfunction, of course I'm at 83,000 miles which is past the 80,000 emission warranty.
They are quoting me $1,700 for the part.

My question is, where can I find a cat converter that isn't outrageously overpriced?

Also, how long can I drive it until the car starts losing power? Currently, it's fine.
I reset the CEL light by disconnecting the battery, only a matter or time till it comes back on.

What were the conditions just before the P0420?

I ask because I was on the highway at high speed (80+ MPH) for a couple of hours, stopped for gas, Got a P0420 a while later on the same drive.
Once I cleared it it never came back. I inspected the cat and it's fine. It also passed the drive clean test.

That was about 5K ago

Pretty much the same story...driving on the highway.
At first, I checked the gas cap, it didn't seem loose but I tightened it up anyway the next day the light was off.
Obviously just a weird coincidence?

Fast forward a few weeks and it came on again while driving on the highway.

I haven't had any issue with power, only thing I've noticed is that's been idling a little harder than usual.

The emission test would really depend on where the OP lives.

I would have also suggested a Mid Pipe, but the OP seems t6 have his heart set on a Stock Kitty.

However, I would go with a Mid pipe in your situation, save some coin.
It's a simple fix once you make your decision. 83K, that stinks to be right out of warranty when costly, yet simple fixes decide to pop up.
