I just got my 8 and didn't even notice this when I bought the car. Both door panels have a hole cut in them in exactly the same place directly below the interior door handle. I didn't even notice them until I was looking for the ODB connector and happened to look at the passenger side door. Any idea why anybody would do this?

 

there are supposed to be "Accent Lights" in them. they light up with the dash to illuminate the controls on the doors

 

When the lights are on, it has a really faint illumination of the window/lock/mirror controls. Assuming there is a bulb in there.

ummm yup...there's supposed to be a light in there....
