my vip recognition
so i went clubbing/barhopping in LA. (i was the DD, dont flip out)
i got to the club early and the valet boys put my car right in front of the club - i was so happy. i kept looking out the balcony to see my baby parked next to benzos, hummers, s2ks and an aston martin (i want one of those). i was early, so i figured i just got a break.
afterparty, we go to this posh bar where all the richboys roll with their fixed up rides. parking is usually reserved for the ferraris, s-series, 7-series, escalades and showcars etc. i pull up to the valet dude, the head honcho looks over, comes over personally and offered me vip parking - right next to the mucielago. thats the first time i've been offered vip anything. coming from driving a jetta/accord/civic/hyundais (they'd park my *** 3 blocks away so i dont offend the eyes of decent folk) i almost cried tears of joy when i handed over my car and saw 2 valets gingerly park the 8 tail-in next to the lambo right by the window to the bar. i looked like a friggin pimp with two ladies at my sides (my friends) and me walking away from the vip parking. the bar was crowded as hell and i spent a good deal of the time staring out the window to my car and all the people who walked by the vip parking line and looked at my car. i was closer to the bar than the porsche carrera.
probably a stupid thing to get excited over but it made my night.

They probably mistook you for Brittney Spears :D
I had the same thing happen when I went to Chris Rock's show.. They parked it so close to the front, we didn't even need the valet to drive it back to us.. it was RIGHT infront of the auditorium in the 2nd space from the exit

What a cool story! I'm surprised this car generates such a great reaction from people. I guess it must be the uniqueness of the 8. It's nice to hear that it's considered "classy" along with being such fun.
LOL, my wifey borrowed the 8 today. I was already going through withdraw when I just got the dreaded phone call:
"Hi honey... listen, can I borrow it tomorrow too? Brenda and some of the other girls haven't seen it yet."
Oh god what have I done? Now that she's tasted it, I'll never get it back

P.S. I wonder if you people in the States get this at the night clubs: no guys are allowed in if there are no girls with them! One on one, if girls are less than boys, the whole bunch won't get in. Sometimes that really sucks...

So, you bought a great looking car..
But you don't valet it..
you park it SO far back in the parking lot that you need 6 bus transfers and a guide to get to where you need to be..
You hide it in your garage when parked at home..
Ok, what's the point!? (you may not actually do ALL of the above, but I bet atleast 2 of 3 )
Granted, I KNOW the car is fun to drive, but the other half of it is letting people see your car.. you might as well do that now before everyone's tired of seeing them!!
After all. It's just a car!

hehe, i've let a few ppl touch this car. but its the service ppl, the tune up ppl, and etc. none of my family members have touched it yet, not even my dad (who bought it for me) hehe. but yeh, i actually dun fuss much about others driving my car, if they asked, i wouldn't refuse them. (unless of course they're total strangers).
but yeh, ppl from 5 yr olds to 90 yr olds (or more) find this car very attractive and somewhat elegant. i'm not usually trying to attract attention, but having ppl giving u thumbs up or pointing at ur car when u drive buy is a great feeling. hehe

The fun to drive (and the practicality of the RX-8) were FAR more important to me than the appearance. Even as far as the appearance goes, it matters that I like it. It's nice if other people like it too, but I certainly didn't buy it for them to look at, I bought it for me and my wife. The attention it might get was an absolute non-factor in my buying decision, and I'm certainly not going to worry about parking it where people can see it!

Yeah, despite the vocal minority, the vast majority of people love how this car looks, as far as I can tell.
My own story: A few weeks ago my wife and I went to a charity event at the local BMW dealership. It's a brand-new, state of the art facility, with a semi-circular driveway and a huge lobby with glass walls and high ceilings. They have several of the new six-series Bimmers and X3s on display out front.
As I pulled up, the valet parkers were gushing about my car. They made a huge deal about parking it between a new SL600 and a C5 Corvette (both red, too) right out front of the driveway.
I think it was better looking than the Vette. (Maybe not the SL.) Really made my day. I just loved how it was at a Bimmer dealership and it made the new six-series look like chopped liver.

I valeted my RX-8 at a upscale resturant in Newport Beach and the same thing happen to me. The valet hopped in my car and backed it right into the #1 spot. Right next to a Mercedes CL55. I loved it! Perfect way to impress my date!!

The valet guys got me the vip spot a few weeks ago at a club in Hollywood. At the end of the night I was so drunk I didn't realize I tipped the guy ten bucks as I was leaving...

The garage at work has given me VIP treatment. Right in front the empty "usually reserved for emergency parking". Next to the booth so it's in plain view of someone all day. hehehe
Wonder how long it'll last.
