My Stripey 8... In the bodyshop for a WEEK!

Well, I'm now driving around in a Hyundai Getz. 66bhp of automotive power!

Anyway, my 8 will be in the bodyshop for a week. On Sunday I made a really retarded mistake and misjudged a reverse parallel park - sideswiping my neighbour's car and causing a big scrape from my front door handle to the rear bumper. Bah.

So, it'll be in the shop for a week. The reason it's taking so long is I already had it booked in to a bodyshop to get the Mazdaspeed kit fitted, so I figured I'd just get the damage repaired there.

However, my insurance company are taking a while to authorise the repairs, because it sounds a bit dodgy, I suppose:

"Hi, insurance company here."
"Hi, I'd like to make a claim please."
[etc]
"Ok, so you need to take your car to a body shop. I can see the following in your area..."
"No, it's ok - it's already booked into a bodyshop on Monday."
"I'm sorry?"
"Yeah, it's already booked in to a bodyshop for some work, so we might as well get them to fix the car too."

They seemed a bit hesitant. I suppose it could sound like insurance fraud to them - I have an accident and my car is *already* booked into a shop! If I crashed into something forwards I'd be laughing seeing as the front is getting replaced anyway. But, I managed to damaged 4 parts that aren't getting done. D'oh!

I pick my car up on Friday. It'll have gone from "My Stripey 8" to "My Mazdaspeed 8". Then, a couple of days after that, it'll be "My Stripey Mazdaspeed 8".

Can't wait!

Yup, I'll be selling the front mudgards, the current sideskirts, the front-end and the front rotary accent if anyone is interested. The front-end will be de-striped. I'm keeping the current rear-end for now, so the rear wheel mudguards will stay.

Does the Getz put a smile on your face like the Hyundai website guarantees?

Errm... The only thing that's good about that car (compared to the RX-8) is that it took 40 litres to fill it up, and the 60 mile trip home made the fuel gauge move from full to 2mm below full. 50mpg!

Other than that, it's just a cheap little car. No acceleration, handling, etc. Reverse is where 6th is on the 8, and you don't have to push the gearstick down/up/etc to engage reverse. Nearly put it in reverse on the motorway!

Well, you can't get them tomorrow because I won't get them back from the bodyshop until Friday!

Let's see...

Side skirt: £175 (pair)
Front mudflaps: £75 (pair)
Front airdam: £275
Front rotary crest: £45
Front bumper: £400

Everything: £900 (£70 saving)
