My Rx-8 Saved my life...Again!

Ok, so I have maneuvered around a deer that ran in front of me on the road, while braking, and also been able to avoid some idiot running a red light at a busy intersection. That one was pretty amazing- driving any other vehicle I would have drilled the person in the side, but while slamming the break, I was able to drift around the car without ever losing a beat.

Last afternoon, I was driving out of town (Moorhead MN) to Bemidji MN. While driving along the open country/lake highway doing about 60 in a 55. Some young teenage girl pulls out in front of me and I had to slam on the brakes... no big deal so I follow her for a while, and during this time. she is all over the road, probably due to her and the 6 other girls messing around in the car.

She is going 65 than 45 and back and forth. As Im following I come up to an open straight away at this point she pulls slightly to the right as if she is going to take a right or pull to the right side. I nicely put on my left blinker and start to pass.

Just as Im passing out of the corner of my eye, I see her car slam the break and turn left towards a driveway with no blinker.

No where to go, and everything in slow motion, I slam the breaks at go from 60-0 in less than what seems like a sec to a dead stop just before I would have hit her and sent her into a rolling into a ditch of trees.

I can honestly say I have NO IDEA, how the 8 stopped like that. The screach of the tires was so loud my ears rang for moments afterwards.

the girl stops in the driveway, and looks at me befuddled as to what happened. I gave her a stearn calm collected look, and said "Ever heard of using a "F-----G blinker, and drove off..

The funnier part was her mother yelled at her from her front porch, as she saw the whole thing!! lol...

Anyways in my rambling, the main point is I love my 8, and I have never felt more comfortably safe and in control in a vehicle since the day I bought my black majesty.

yeah, most people in our lake country have gravel driveways that are come right up to the highway highway. usually about 50 yards long or so.

Ah gotcha... I know what you are talking about now.

This is why I think they should raise the driving age to at least 18... and make the test more rigorous.

Boys get into accidents b/c they are pushing their cars, girls get into accidents because they are clueless and distracted.

Glad that you are ok.

WOW.... yeah usually when i see a gaggle of girls in a car, all over the road.... i pull over for about 5 minutes and let them get far enough ahead of me that I will just drive by the aftermath of which they have coming to them..... seen it twice, once pulled over by a cop and the other was an accident where it looked like they had side swiped a park car

love them brakes....... Full tilt they can slow ya down.

better to be suprised at how fast you stop as apposed to being suprised by the hot white flash of an airbag going off!

If you would been in an SUV that mother would not be yelling out of anger
I hate the whole concept that people think SUV's are safer cause they're "bigger"
talk about flawed logic

Yea... In Florida, you just have to assume everyone is going to make a left/right merge/turn at any second. Keeps you on your toes 24/7, kills the fun of driving sometimes.

With today's distracted and incompetent drivers, you have to pay attention and assume the worst.

Heh, he said "douche." Priceless.

Glad you didn't wreck, man. The bad part is, the idiot driving the car will only have gotten a verbal scolding from her mom, which she will ignore because she's too busy on twitter or some equally dumb ****, and she will be just as stupid on the road the next day.

I'm all for kids learning how to drive, but there has to be a better way to know they can drive safely before they go out there unsupervised. Too many think that it's a damn game, and don't understand the physics involved until said physics send them through a windshield.
