I have pirelli snow sport 240s 18" 225-40's The work great in the snow/wet and are grippy in the dry. Snows are still not as "crisp" as the stock tires. The stock tires are however CRISPY in the snow like potato chips made out of glass.

I wonder how well the factory 16" wheels/tires will do in the snow? This will be our 1st Winter with the 8, but don't plan on having it out in the elements unless necessary.

I am a new 06 Shinka owner (woohoo!) and have a set of 225/50/17 Contiwinter TS810 (why are these names so farking long???) going on a set of Mazda 3 5-spoke wheels for winter.
The car will be fine, as long as you have the proper tires. You need grip.
Check out the contis - the germans know how to make performance winter tires LOL
I'll report how they are to the board when I get some miles on them.

Rotate - I love the way my 8 handles in snow on 17" M3s. Well worth the price.

I have Dunlop winter sport M3s. They do fine in snow and handle well on dry pavement. They are run flat tires, I bought them from Tire Rack. Stay home when snow is deep over 6 inches. The car carriage will hang up in deep snow and your snow tires will be useless. These cars have low road clearance.

Even here in Texas we sometimes get snow. 1/2" fell the other day. All I did was change keys. Using the one that fits in the AWD CX7 I had no problems in the snow. The sheer ice on the bridges was thrilling though. Moving off line to ride across the sand at 65 MPH worked on most bridges but on occasion the DSC would kick in. Sweeeeet.

Hey man, go to the Canada Forum and do a search for snow tires. You will get MORE than enough info.
And yes PLEASE use Winter tires in the winter if the temperature in your area is going to be lower than 10 Degress Celsius. Those Summer tires will hop around like hockey pucks and you will get hurt.
