My RX-7..........I mean 8

First, let me just wish everyone a MERRY CHRISTMAS! This forum rocks and I am happy to be a part of it. Anyway...

I often find myself referring to my RX-8 as the RX-7. I didn't really notice until my wife pointed that out. I have owned 4 RX-7's in the past, so I figure that's probably why I keep slipping up. As much as I love my 8, my first true love was my black 1987 RX-7 Turbo II and I will never forget her. I can't help but reminisce about her from time to time, especially around the holidays. I wonder were she is now.....

OKAY then, back on track. Does anyone else ever find themselves referring to their 8 as a 7? :D

Yes, but for different reason. 7 just sounds more natural than 8, but maybe it's Freudian.

No, because I've never owned a 7 and I dont think the 8 looks anything like it.

No, it's an 8 most definitely. She does remind me of my first, though! She was a 4. She was not as beautiful, but she was so sweet! I dreamed of her for nearly 30 years, but now the dreams have been resurrected in a more devine body and soul! The 7's were great and the 2T was beautiful, but the price of having her was beyond my dreams at the time. My 8 is the completion of the dream!

I drove an RX-7 as a daily driver from June 1980 until I got my 8 in January. I agree with Rezoom, the 8 *is* distinctive. More power, more refinement and much more practicality without compromising the sports car driving experience. It deserves its own identity.

I loved my 7's but I love my 8 more.

I sometimes make that mistake, but mostly because I wanted a 7 for years but couldn't afford it at the time. I now say "It's a Mazda... RX-8," and that little delay helps me remember it's 8, not 7. :D

Yup me too, I slip up now and then and say RX-7. I've owned each gen, and for me my 3rd gen FD twin turbo was my soul mate. Even after owning various BMWs and MBs, I just can't get the rotary cars out of my system. And I do enjoy the 8 as much as any of my previous 7's, even the FD.

I've owned 2 RX-7s in the past, but I alwayed simply referred to them as "RX". For some reason, I refer to my RX-8 simply as "8". Oddly enough, I always get tongue tied when mentioning Acura's "NX-S" and "RX-S"...

Here in the land of Oz, we refer to the 99-02 RX-7 as the "Series-8"
(92-95 = series-6 + 96-98 = series-7)

Talking to some that are very new on the rotary scene. They get a little confused when your talking about the "series-8" RX-7 & the (series-1) RX-8 at the same time.

The last of the RX-7's is a regular comparison & the used "series-8's" are about the same price as an new RX-8 at the various dealerships here in Sydney.

I was filling up at a gas station recently, complimenting someone on his nearby 300ZX, and he asked me how I liked my RX-7. I said it's great. Then he corrected himself. No biggie. I think people have a tendency to consider this car as the replacement for the RX-7, amd judge it as such. (Which is erroneous, but it doesn't really bother me.)

I traded an Acura RSX in for my 8 and find myself saying X instead of 8 all the time. I guess over time I will learn not to do this. Mistakingly calling the 8 a RSX isn't that much of put down to me because I loved that car too, especially since it was almost paid for when compaired to how much I owe on the 8!
