My Opinion of the 8
I got my car at last on Friday and since then I have taken every opportunity to leave the house. I drove up to Loon in new Hampshire on Friday and loved every second of the drive. It handles great and rides smooth. I have not run into any major problems. My oil light was periodically turning on so I brought it back to the dealer and they fixed that, and besides that, perfect. I still look out my window at it and admire it sitting in my driveway.
Just wanted to show my appreciation for this forum and the car
Edit: Im going to put pictures up asap. I don't actually have a good camera but Ill borrow one

congrats & welcome to the club...
just a reminder, our engine burns oil by design. so, would suggest u buy one or two rotary motor oils from the mazda dealer and carry it in the trunk with you. and, remember to check the oil levels every 2nd time u fill-up gas.

Welcome to the club and to the joys of rotary motoring. This, indeed, an exceptional vehicle. Unique, and splendidly engineered. Enloy!!

how much oil per full tank would you say it burns? I recently checked my oil and it was above the line, which I thought may be the reason my oil light was on, but turned out to be a sensor

The amount of engine oil the car burns really depends on different drivers. Like myself have owned my 8 since Dec last year, and I only had to fill up engine oil 3 times, but I fill in my gas (full tank) every week. I don't redline it, highest rev is probably 8,000 ... never really babied it either ... so it really depends, but good to check every 2 3 weeks like all experts here say.

If you're using dino oil, go for every 3K miles. I seem to burn about a 1/2 quart between oil changes. I don't think I'm as hard charging as some of the folks on here.
Leave a quart in a couple ziploc freezer bags in the pocket behind the pass thru in your trunk just in case.

Oil usage is entirely based on load.
If you use a lot of throttle, you will use a lot of oil.
If you drive around keeping the RPMs down, then you can go 2000-3000 miles without needing to add any oil.
